The pull start on my XTM .18 came apart and I can't get the dang thing to work right. I've got the spring in but when I pull on the cord it dosen't go back inside.

Help please

Usually you have to prewind the spring in the start. When it comes apart, it comes all undone and when you reassemble it, you have to really wind up the spring pretty good to get the recoil to work.

The best way to reset your recoil spring is by removing the pull handle, wind all the cord on the spool. Make sure the spring is nicely wound and seated in the housing, then put the spool back in the housing, make sure the hook end of the spring catches where it should. Turn it around a few times in the direction it would normally turn if you were pulling on the cord. You will begin to feel tension build on the spring, then using a a poker of some sort push the cord through the hole, clip a vise grip or something similar on the cord outside the housing to keep it from pulling the cord back in, and just tie the pull hanled back on.

steps for pullstart assembly

I have destroyed many a pull start, and after trying several different ways to reassemble them, this process seems to work the best:

1. Remove pull start from vehicle.

2. Curse at pull start, rip apart, and discard in trash bin.

3. get into car.

4. Drive to nearest LHS

5. Purchase new pull start for twice what it should cost.

6. Install into RC vehicle, and wait 2 weeks.

7. Repeat steps 1-6.

Thanx guys, it's working great now...well the pull starter anyway. Now it's the one way bearing that's making me mad.

nitronewbie, I like your way best.

That has to be the best thing about pullstarts that I have ever heard! :)

supernitro - just do what i do. I have a pullstart installed on my .12 rossi, but i use an ofna starter box. However, when the batteries in the starterbox go bad, or i just dont feel like carring it, i use the pull start. nice having both. plus, starter box isnt that bad to carry, i just put it in my bag with all my tools, fuel, parts, ect...

thats not a bad idea. but being that I'm at college for 7 or 8 months of the year, i have to walk pretty far to get where I'm driving, its also all uphill. i may get a carrier bag that can carry a pullstart and all my stuff in it over the summer, I'm still deciding... do you know of any good bags ?

I just use an oversized camera bag that I have, it holds all that I need, but the bags from Trinity are jam up! Saw them at my LHS for 59.99 which is a good deal. I might pick one up, and i would definitly recommend it to you

I had to put a new string in my pull start every other day just cuz it kept rubbing on the string....it's not THAT hard, just kinda pain, but u can learn to master it pretty easily

The guy who owns that company flies at my model airplane field...the wing bags aren't as good as the ones I have for my pattern plane are ten times better

The wing bags might not be that great. Especially if you are hauling some VERY expensive planes around, BUT, their R.C. bags looked pretty darn good to me.

For me, the 3 big factors to a hauling Car/Truck/Buggy bag are as follows:

Durability - Rugged at the seams and can get tossed around.
Functionality - Have many compartments for things you really bring, like fuel bottles, spare parts containers and some tools etc.
Size - If they barely fit then I dont like them. They need to be roomy.

The wingtote R.C. car/truck/buggy bags seemed to fit the bill just fine. And I'm pretty certain the Trinity bags will be just as good, if not better. I'm ithcing to see them side by side but I guess that will be a while as they still havent been officially released yet. Not that I have found anywhere.
