Nitroaddict and I are running the buggies today and he has a question. is it okay to run 30% in his OS .21RZ(VO1B) without shimming the head? it is setup up for 20% right now. Will richening the needles be sufficiant? or will shimming the head be required? I know my OS .15CV-R's instruction manual says its okay to run up to 30%, but nitroaddict doesn't have his manual with him? A quick answer woud be appreciated, since we want to bash here in a few hours.

I'm loading up the manual right now. I will post back in a mintue or two...

EDIT::: The manual says that you can use up to 30% with at least 18% lubricant. This is just my opinion but I would think you would have to tweak the needles a little. Enjoy you lucky dogs as right now I am at work. :-/

Here is a link to the manual in PDF form

You will definately have to re-tune but thats it. No shimming will be required.

Almost ALL .21's will be able to run 30% without any problem at all. Smallblocks on the other hand will require head shimming more often that a .21 or larger. Just my experience with them talking.

this is nitroaddict;

thanks guys, i only had 30% with me, and was a bit worried. i will just richen up the needles, and go with it. not racing, just bashing, so wont be putting to hard a load on the engine.

I alternate with 20 and 30 in my .12s without shims.
Keep an eye on the temps. If the temp becomes an issue and can't be controlled with tuning then a shim may be in order.
