The break up of the Space Shuttle Columbia upon orbital re-entry into Earth's atmosphere enroute to a 0916EST landing in Florida, has given us yet another great tragedy.

For those who are going to ask the terrorist question, the only way this could be a terrorist act is for the terrorists to have placed something onto the shuttle prior to lift off. The extremely high security surrounding the preparations and launch for this mission make that highly unlikely and a near impossibility.

For those that think this might be a missile issue or some other issue. Not a chance, the altitude and speed that this occurred at (200,000 feet moving at just over 12000mph) precludes most, if not all, know missile/weapons technology we have today.

This leaves us with idle speculation, human error, and/or a material failure of some sort.

Until NASA and the 500 pound heads of the government figure it out, we can leave the rhetoric to the media and extend our hearts and prayers to the brave men and women who lost their lives in this terrible tragedy and offer support and prayers to their families.

I woke up anf put it on the news and saw it. BAD NEWS

its a sad day,i really feel for the families waiting on their loved ones to land....something that will never happen:(

This is a really sad occurance especially where america is today, we really needed something more positive, unfortuantly this happened, My hopes and prayers go out to all the people on board the columbia, there families and all the people at NASA :(

I've been watching it all day so far and now there thinking that may be because of the tile damage on the wing....

Considering that some of the insulation from one of the boosters fell off during launch and impacted the leading edge of the left wing, and the fact that the left wing's sensors were the first to indicate any problems and then go dead; that is a pretty good guess as to what happened.

We take for granted space travel. Most people just shrug it off like 'big deal' just another shuttle launch. Yet the fact remains, that space travel is by far the most risky form of travel today. The amount of people, money, time and work that go into a launch and mission are purely incomprehensible to one person alone.

People are still perfecting the art of speach which has taken place for thousands of years. We have only been going to space for 40!

Fortunately the friends and families of the crew know too well the dangers involved. Still it will not be easy for them to take on their loss. For this I pray that God may look over them in this time of mourning.

What makes it even harder, is my son who has for the past two years fallen in love with Aerospace, and aspired to become an astronaut, told me today he no longer wants to do it! We even took the trip to D.C. this year just to let him see what could possibly be his future.

I just hope they establish what went wrong so as to prevent it in the future!

I have a degree in Aerospace Engineering from Penn State, and would love to help encourage your boy to get back into his dreams of being an astronaut. Tragedies like this can happen in any job or walk of life. To turn away from a life's aspiration because of this would be another terrible tragedy.

For those smart-asses out there who like to challenge things, here's my degree:

Dude Sky that is the Same kind of degree I got. Did you get that same email about university degrees for 19.99 shipped to your house? I like the aerospace engineer but instead I choose interior desgin degree. Wow looks like you also paid the extra 10 bucks for the plaque I didn't have the extra 10 and I had already given plasma the week I bought mine so I just have it in a nice page protector i borowed from work. :cheerful: anyway I am glad to see other people have the email university degrees also.

Dude I need to forward you an email I got it says it gaurantees an extra 3 inches I think we should go in half each on a bottle of this stuff cause I think just another inch and a half will put me over the top with the wife anyway let me know. X

That degree signifies four and a half years of drunken bliss at one of America's finest institutions. The frame is made from an elm that used to line one of the many on campus walkways; this particular one was cut down from the "mall" that leads up to Penn State's library.

It is as far from a degree by mail object as anything can be. If you would like to challenge me as to its authenticity, I recommend against it. I think you know me, and know that I have the firepower to back whatever I say.

I do find it humorous that you mention this as an e-mail scam. Shall we discuss other e-mail scams that you might have stumbled upon.

As for the enlarger, I'll let you work that one out on your own. Based on what I've heard, you may need all the help in that area that you can get.

My recommendation to you X is simply this, watch whom you challenge and how you challenge them. I am in no mood to properly school you in the art of war, but may at a later date (of my choosing). Keep looking over your shoulder, because someday soon I may be right behind you ready to stick my size eleven boot up your ass.

Beyond this, I do not intend to further sully the intent of this thread with this game.

X stop playin games:ball: all ways trying to start somthing.

Goodlord.
And this is not the thread to start this in.

I wasn't tring to start anything. I was just tring to lighten up the thread a bit. To anyone that took offense I appologise. Again I ment no disrespect and sky knows that I didn't mean any to him or his thread so chill. X

I feel so sorry for there families image beening so happy for them to be comming home and have them not come home. You know watching there shuttle burn up in entrance thats gotta suc
