Bro, I have a shredder that shreds but like you said a person determinued enough could piece it back together.

I try to shred all of that and throw it away at two different places. Paranoid? Maybe...

I've got a cross cut shredder at home and it slices and dices enough so there is no way someone could piece it back together.

I shred, then burn it in the fireplace - I'd like to see someone put THAT back together after its' been burned.

I also have a cross cut shredder and for the amount of stuff I shred if someone wants to sort through about a reams worth of cross cut shreded paper to get a free CC then so be - enyjoy!

Also in case you didn't know each time a credit card company checks your credit score before sending out one of those apps it will lower your credit score. So if you look at the bottom of those apps or the back of them there should be a number or URL to goto and have yourself removed from the list so they will stop sending them to you. This does two things, one it stops them from lowering your score and two, exactly what is to fear here...someone can't fill out the app in your name if you're not getting them anymore.

Note that not all companies use the list so you could still get credit card apps - however I used to get two - three a week, now I'm lucky if I get one once a month.

Very good advice and info Woodie, I had no idea they were running a credit check. Those bastards!

LOL @ Monkey, guess you won't be babysitting my kid any time soon.

Not even, Woodie! It'd be a real pleasure to be your pony! Hopefully we can meet up sometime! I think Sweetdiesel's going to be in Lexington sometime this summer, maybe we can get together for a cold one and a little bashing!

I tear them up and look for the most important pieces and put them on a sandwich. Most of the Visa apps go great with Turkey while the Discover apps are more perfectly paired with Roast Beef. AmEx goes with Ham quite well. Sometimes when I'm really hungry I use Elmer's glue too, ummmm, so good!

I've been thinking about getting a paper shredder.
I usually tear up stuff like that and put it in 2 or 3 places in the garbage.

On something a little different..... We get a lot of the credit card apps in the mail, sure all of you do.
A friend of mine was ripping the app up and putting it in their SASE.
I went one step further and added a little weight to it. After all they are paying the postage...

Had one card that wanted to mess us over, so we cancelled it.
Got an app almost everyday from them for about 2 months.
I finally unrolled a rubber and taped it to a piece of paper, with a note, "f you and your credit card."
Put it in their little SASE.
Wish I could've seen the look on their face when they opened it! :devious:

I take ALL my junk mail and stuff it into the next SASE I get....tends to get teh point across after a while......the postman hates me cause I never check my mail...I do all my bills online and have anything of importance sent to my office....
