Build Thread My Rustler 2wd build 2.0

I went with HR as the bellcrank is all 1 piece. The bottom of the Traxxas aluminum bellcrank sits on the actual bellcrank and I guess overtime it just wedged it self out. (I had that Traxxas bellcrank for 3 years, one of my first upgrades) And I also bent and broke the center drag link multiple times in both my rustler and slash. Heck, on my slash I am still running the aluminum bellcrank, but since the center drag link bent, I used the plastic one from the stock one to get it running.

See pics below.

I'll try it out.

USPS decided to send my package 4 hours north and delayed it by 2 days so my package won't be delivered for like another day or 2. So I won't have my other pair of tires.

Gonna use the worn down street tires and see if those work.

Swap the front to the rear. Who needs steering in a beach? 😅

Got my other pair of slick tires and ill be bringing the rustler out to the track in the next few Saturdays and try to race it. Just need to figure out my receiver wiring system and how/where to mount my transponder. As I only have 1 and will be switching it from car to car. Buddy says we need more older/vintage stadium trucks so Ill bring what I got. Sure the rustler platform is a bit dated, but mine is a bit upgraded so IDK how it will be doing against current trucks or older trucks. My buddy has a Losi XXXT (i believe its called)
My car is still factory rear motor so Ill qualify. But if I did a mid motor conversion, Ideally I don't think I would be qualified for a old/vintage class.

If you use the old traxxas tan chassis from the 90s. 🫡

If I can find one.
Well, my rustler would ideally qualify for mid school. Gonna have to read the rules over again. They are planning on doing another vintage showdown race next year.

Practice with the rusty between rounds of racing today. Had to turn down the epa in the radio to calm the car down. It's a bit powerful for me. Very cautious in the sweeper as the rear end likes to spin out. Overall the car did good. Didn't have my transponder in so didn't get lap times. Didn't do the full track, I did the oval (well rectangle) as when you come out of the sweeper they made a pass through to the triple because of the vintage cars. I lost a screw that holds in my ESC fan so I was running off of 1 screw and I went into thermal protection mode a couple times but all good. The slicks with compound are hooked.

Took the Rusty out for a walk today.
Stripped the spur gear.
Counted 7 teeth chewed off. That is probably my record right now on how many teeth I can strip off a gear. Lol. It was a Traxxas 76T gear. Gonna replace that soon. Ill see what I have in my collection.

We were about a half mile from home so I kept the car in cruise control at 12% throttle as I didn't want to carry it all the way home. Any more throttle, it would sound terrible. Dad said it sounded like a broken Tesla.

Rusty is now running on a Futaba 3PV / R304SB receiver!
Planning on doing a transmission / rear end rebuild sometime this week. Feel like it needs it. One wheel on throttle isn't spinning as fast as the other one. And while off throttle, that one wheel stops quicker than the other. Might be a bearing in the hub or trans case.

Replaced the rear hub bearings on both sides. Fixed it. Didn't need to do a full transmission rebuild.

Although I wonder why I always bend these stub axle pins. And the wheel hexes are super hard to put back on / take off. I'll get new hexes soon. These were cheap Amazon hobby park ones I had on the car since I got it basically.

Cheap Chinesium. Not hardened pins as they should be. Hardened pins don't bend. They break.

Yeah. These I believe are the cheapo pins that came in those cheap Amazon hardware kits.
Screws and nuts from those are actually pretty good/ok. The pins and the body clips, not really. If I compare these cheapo ones to the Traxxas ones, the Amazon ones are pretty thin

I also noticed the Tamiya pins for the tt02 seem like the same ones or same thing as the Amazon ones.
