A few weeks ago i bought a new slash 4x4.It was not my original choice,i wanted a e-max or stampede.I wanted to support my LHS so i bought what they had.I absolutely love it,this truck is a bashing machine. After maybe 8 batteries ran through it i the only real damage was to the body and a front bent shock which i bent back.I hit a ramp at full speed and land on cement and it keeps on going.

Now i do have a few questions.

#1 when i bought the truck i also bought a Duratrax Onyx 245 duel batt charger. Is this a good charger?

I moved all the 4 shocks to the the highest point for better ground clearance. After doing this i found when turning fast on pavement i no longer flip it and spin out.
I would like to upgrade the shocks to some durable ones that when i get big air i don't land as hard.

#2 What shocks would you recommend for some serious bashing and occasional dirt stadium runs?

#3 What other upgrades if any would you recommend for this truck.

Thank you for reading this thread and for any suggestions

Rob

Congrats on the rig, the Slash is very durable. The Onyx 245 is a good charger, I'm not the most knowledgable when it comes to electrics but I've read that it is a little underpowered once you start charging higher capacity batteries but it will probably be fine for most "bashers". For the shocks most people will recommend the big bores from Traxxas, you can grab a new set from ebay for under $50 shipped, if you have the money the powerstrokes from Proline are supposed to be some of the best. I'd stick with the Traxxas for bashing and the Powerstrokes if you're looking at racing. For upgrades, I'd go with RPM for the arms and bumpers, you'll have to pick if you want RPM or aluminum for the bearing carriers (this is an area that will have some debates). Where do you drive the most, what terrain? A different set of tires could do wonders. If you're thinking about racing, Proline has the Pro Trac kit which is supposed to do wonders for handling.

1) Onyx is typically a good charger.
2) Traxxas Bigbores or Proline powerstrokes
3) The truck is pretty durable. IMO I would upgrade as you break. You will probably find you wont be upgrading to often. RPM arms, towers are a good start as well as bulkheads

Ty for your responses.I mainly just bash around the yard.I like to jump this 3 ft ramp and i land hard on the pavement.I kinda want to customize it a bit but i think i will just repair as needed as suggested.I think if i want to make a show kinda truck ill prob buy a stampede or e-max,i like the look of those better.

Get a set of Hot Bodies D8 shocks (full set from a standard D8, or 2 pairs of front shocks from a D8 Hara). I had a set on my Slash 4X4 and they were awesome! They soak up damn near everything.....and since they are 8th scale shocks....you can beat the snot out of them.

If you want more dampening out of your shocks, change out the fluid to a heavier weight shock oil. The stock fluid should be 30 weight, I would go anywhere from 40-70 weight oil. You can play around with different weight oils to find what best suites your driving.
