I've finally brought my Kyosho home.
It's my first one completely, I've never had an RC before and that's why people said I shouldn't buy a nitro for my first but I do complete restorations on classic vehicles for a living so I am confident I can handle this.

Anyway, super stoked to get her running up in may and to start learning

Congrats. Nice ride. My brother got his first hobby grade, a brand new traxxas nitro sport in 2003. He was 11 or so. The first few times the hobby shop tuned it. After that he learned.

Nitro isn't for everyone, and there are some people who would benefit from an electric first. Then there are some who have the special touch and can do nitro no issues.

How do you like it?

Absolutely, I'm excited to get into electric too. I like watching them race around the track and that nice "thud" when they land all quiet.

Congrats!!! That thing looks AWESOME!!! 😍 😎 😁
Please post all about the car and what you think! 👍
Its very important tgat your follow the break in procedure. Do read thru the entire manual and make sure you understand before you make any mistake.
We'll help answer questions as they come up.

Good luck!!! 😎

Congrats on the purchase! You definitely picked a good one. In my experience mechanics are usually the ones who have the most trouble with nitro RC's ;) You'll figure it out, they're not as complicated as people make them out to be.

Here are a couple videos that will help with tuning it. The first one shows a cutaway on how exactly these carbs work and is very helpful in understanding why certain adjustments have the effects that they have. The second one is what taught me how to tune a nitro back in 2010... I am yet to find a more clear and simple tutorial on nitro tuning. It's not the most in depth, but will get you in the ballpark. Obviously you're going to want to follow Kyosho's break in procedure, so id just ignore that part of the video, but the tuning of the carb is pretty universal.

Oh and good nitro fuel goes a long way. Avoid Traxxas Top Fuel if at all possible, VP makes good nitro fuel and most hobby shops should stock it. Start with 20% until you get the tuning down, it's a lot more forgiving. 30% makes more power, but can make things a lot more finicky. Try not to buy more than what you're going to use in 3-4 weeks either. Once you open the bottle, the clock start ticking and old fuel will cause all sorts of headaches.

Thank you, this is extremely helpful. I'm not running it for another month or so it gives me plenty of time to research and read the manuals, especially for a first timer
