I placed an order last night for parts for her truck that if her truck is not worth rebuilding, I can always use them on my xl. I did purchase an upright set just in case. My hope is to remove enough of the wheel so I can access the upright and get that off of the truck. Then I can cut off the axle shaft from the back and save the upright. If not I'll need the upright, upright shaft, axle shaft and 2 bearings.

Even if you do have to do the worst to it it still wont be that bad to replace the stuff especially if you got the truck at a good price. Have u disassembled the motor yet

Not yet. Waiting for pull start to arrive along with the other parts. Maybe end of this week to end of the month is when we will start. Being that I'm in Buffalo, NY the season is about 2 to 3 months away. I still have to get the manual from hpi which I can get online. All we need to order is the new style radio box and the arms.

Well i buy used nitros and fix them myself and when i buy a used one the first think i do is pull the motor and disassemble it and clean and just look all the inners over bc I've found alot of the time parts of the crank shaft will be all rusty and what knot and in some cases starting it could cause rust to come loose and damage the piston and sleeve and not to mention resealing it isnt a bad idea. Also taking it apart and looking at the piston and sleeve will give you a good idea of what kinda shape the motor is in.

I'm fairly new to rc been in it a year but I've already gone thru like 30 motors between myself and some friends that dont like to work on them themselves

If the motor does look good then I will seal the back plate and carb mounting area. Then I'll seal the needles with green slime and install the pull start. I already have a new manifold gasket and spring. Then the fun begins of pulling everything apart and replacing what needs to be replaced.

Gotcha i was just saying what i always do lol. and idk what kinda owb it has on it but if it is one that is actually shaped like a bolt you can start it or try to start it with a cordless drill just to see if it will run i did that with my firestorm when i first bought it to see if it was gonna run with the motor it came with

Srusienk, what is green slime? I have never seen or used it.

Actually this is a product by Team Associated and is used to seal O-rings. I use it on my leaky shocks when I rebuild them.

good to know i may have to invest in some of that i was wondering y he would be sealing with the stuff for a bike but hey i guess it could work how. does the green slime work by making the oring swell or is it just a sealer

I'm not 100 percent but when's used on the o rings of the carb needles, it helps seal the o rings to the carb which prevents air leaks and running lean. I've sealed most of the motors I own.

I was just curious if you knew bc if it swells then i wouldn wanna use it. I always seal with some red rtv myself but on neddle orings i just use a thick automotive grease on account of them having to move and once rtv sets and you move it the seal breaks

It works as a sealer and does not swell the o-rings. It allows you to adjust the settings (or in my case cycle the shocks) without having to re-seal the needles.

Made some progress

Today we were able fold the tire back enough to access the upright hardware. We removed the upright off of the truck and then we cut up the tire and foam. We then were left with the upright and the wheel still attached. I then used a hacksaw to cut up the rim and I was able to seperate the wheel and remove it. All is left is the axle shaft with the shaft carrier with the 2 bearings. At this point all I would be losing is 2 bearings but tomorrow I'm bringing it to work to cut off the axle shaft and save the bearings. Going better than planned. Now to find sometime to remove the engine and see what we really have.

Green slim is the stuff people put in bicycle tires and truck tires to fill small holes

NO!! This is the Green Slime used on RC engines, is lubes up the o-rings.

@ srusinek thats great glad to hear its going easier than expected sometimes thats just how it works other times not so much lol

This is a surprise!

I was able to cut off the axle and save the bearings but not the upright. I went to the LHS today with my daughters truck to order some parts. I ordered the new savage x/xl style radio box and I also ordered new skid plates. They only had the one skidplate in stock so I took it so I can start taking this thing apart. It turns out that the previous owner upgraded the chassis plates because they seem extended and are thicker than the roll bar. The plates are about 4mm thick when I measured them with my digital caliper. I also put it next to my xl and it's just maybe an inch shorter in length. I will post pics asap but it does have me wondering what other goodies are on this thing?
