well i found a place in the NYC area that is selling the MTX-4 for 450. that's a good sign because the the NYC Hobby shops are very competitive. my LHS will probably price the kit within this range, if no lesser.

there is no way i am going to pay 600+ for this kit.

Hope so. Thats why i am waiting until next yr. But if it doesn't go down then i am gonna have to just bite the bullet :thumbdown

if you are thinking about getting the us version of the MTX-4, plan on spending more than $410. this is the price hobby shops are purchasing the kits from the distributor. this is a fact because i saw the bill sheet my LHS received for these kits from horizon hobby distributing. with the 10% retail pricing profit margin, the street price should be $450. if you are frequent buyer at your LHS, you may be able to get a minor discount.

i started building the kit last night and most likely be done with it tonite as a roller. the build is pretty easy but i need to find a place that sells 1mm offset foams for this car. when i race it next year, i think i will put a huge order of foams just for the season.

This and the RRR should be the best cars on the market IMO.

Should be pretty close.

Now that I think about it, $450 is nothing considering you're getting Mugen quality.



So far, the only weakness I have heard of is the rear shock tower, there is a 4mm version I saw on ebay that should take car of the problem.

When I race I dont break things anyways because I simply don't hit but it could be an annoyance to some.

- I will be picking one up in the spring, I have no need to buy one now, it would be a complete waste. Knowing me, i'd finish building it in less then a week and it would then obviously sit for the winter season.

If you want a competitive car, this should be considered.

On the other hand, Mtx-3's are probably selling on ebay for cheap, just assuming this.

well the build is done. the rear shock tower does flex a bit due to the large hole in the middle of the carbon fiber. the one thing i have an issue is that the receiver is not well protected. the receiver case is not fully enclosed and the plastic flexes a lot. i don't think a cheap receiver will survive much with a side impact. i will need to install some foam to remedy this.

There are a few aftermarket rear towers that are available or you can just glue two stock ones together. The receiver is protected well enough. It is exactly the same receiver mount and cover from the MTX3. I ran the 3 for over a year and never lost a receiver. I use the cover, but many of the other team guys do not even use the cover for the receiver.

Problems have been addressed. Being a hobbiest and having machinery at personal disposal, manufacturers pitfalls are always overcome with a bit of ingenuity and mixed talent. Those that do race competatively here on the board have brought their talents and ideas together to address the short comings.

Mtx-3 prospecs are selling cheap now. Just a cheaper alternative for some people . :shrug:
