McCoy's Performance Parts & Acessories (MPPA) has recently released a superchager for nitro engines that fits .15 to .21 size engines that have a slide carb.

" Our Supercharger is a device that will force air into your engines carburetor at an increased pressure and rate. This process will enhance the atomization of the fuel and increase the pressure in the engines crank shaft area. When the proper ports open (depending on type of engine) the increase pressure rushes into the piston chamber, helping again to keep the fuel atomized and pushing out the exhausted gases filling the piston chamber with a better mix of fuel. "

Instead of using pullies driven by the flywheel of your engine, this supercharger uses a 6v reciver pack or a 7.4v Lithium batter topower the impeller and compress the air enterng the carb.

The supercharger has been sent to the folks at RCDriver to have tests done on their dyno, so look for it in the OCT 2004 issue.

looks neat but i really dont think they work to good...i'll have to pass plus added weight
 
While I don't know the proportions, it looks like a better setup than that supercharger that came out a year ago. If you're running a 4-stroke, it'll actually work!

Although I see one big downside, traditional superchargers have boost proportional to RPM while this electric "supercharger" will probably have continuous boost. Dunno how well that'd work.

Also, the more I think about it, running a supercharger won't be all that good for an engine. I know when I removed my restrictor from my novarossi, while it was SIGNIFICANTLY faster due to a whole shitload more air, the temps did skyrocket. So you could very well get the same results with a setup like that.
 
and i agree....they sell this same type for 1:1 cars on ebay and if you look at there feedback you know it dont work!!
 
Well, it's not that those eBay superchargers don't work, it's that they put out like 1.2psi which won't make much of a significant gain for someone to even feel.

I'm sure 1.2psi would be a much significant gain with our little r/c engines. That's why I say it WOULD work (on 4-strokes), but still, there could be some serious side effects.
 
I think this is the supercharger somebody else was talking about a not too long ago.... said someting about running off servos or something (obviously a power source but not servos). I'm pretty sure the topic of superchargers and nitro engines has been discussed in enough detail no matter what the source. it won't be on my list I assure you of that.
 
:doh: enough already with the superchargers. they dont work. waste of :2cents:

just run 30% nitro and your car wil scream more then it wil ever do with these stupid chargers.

It says on the website that it runs off a miniature ESC that ups the power of the supercharger as you up the power of your engine. So, it wouldn't be a continous blast of pressure, it would vary depending on the position of your carb.

This supercharger is being tested for the October issue of RCDriver so we shall see if it really does work.
 
Great for bragging rights at the park but would do nothing good for me when I race my car at the track. I'll stick to my Novarossi. If I want speed in a straight line, I'll whip out the Fusion 21.
 
come on guys... give things a chance first. for all you know it could actually be a worthwhile improvment
 
It has caught my attention like no other engine "gadget" has. I just might have to check this one out!
 
The guy who helped develop this one is one of my customers. I've seen them run, and its does well. I'm not sure of the power gain, but it did work well enough to impress me. I still don't know how it overcomes the law of 2 cycle engines, though. I was a 2 cycle engine assembly engineer for 2 years, and we never figured it out. Spent alot of meony on design, but couldn't make it work on a dyno.
 
well just have to wait till the review is out and we'll all see if it does good i would not mind trying it out!!

I can't see it working either, all it would do is blow a lot of fuel and air out the exhaust, cos unlike a 4 stroke both inlet and ex ports are open at the same time. The only way it might improve performance is by scavenging all the exhaust gasses out better purely by the pressure in the crankcase blowing through the inlet port. Nope, just seems like a good way to blow fuel. (be good for that bloke who want to make a flamer kit!) :smoke:
 
Even if it does work, why spend 200 clams on somthing that can't give you that much more power than a top of the line engine. You can go and spend 300-350 and get a killer engine and not have to worry about the malfunction or the extra drain on your batts. Thats just my .02.
