I have had my Savage XL for almost a year and am wanting to get some more power from it. I have tried everything that I can to get more power from the K5.9 but still doesn't have the power that I would like it to have. Also I have read that it is just a Gas Hog. My buddy has a Big Red by Dynamite that is sizewise smaller but smokes me til I hit 3rd.

Anyone know of some motors to try out?

lrp is going to be the best bang for the buck while picco is going to give you the absolute most power per cc.

Look at either the lrp .30 or .32. Both can be had for under 200 and will have no problem getting your XL screaming.

I've had 3 LRP28's and have a 4th in the mail. Great little engine that can be had for around $150 on ebay if your not in a big hurry.

Have never had a HPI 5.9 or seen one run, so cannot speculate as to how they perform. I have a K4.6 in my savage and it's a decent little engine (if I could get the stupid thing to hold a tune). Feels like lower RPM's than the LRP's I've had. Less torque in the mid-high rpm range it seems as well.

I have a LRP.32 and running 15/52 and when I hit 3 gear so fast I can't controll it mind you my truck is set up for bashing and not speed , last time I hit 3 gear I broke a shock end while doing cartwheels about 25 of them LOL

I had a 3-speed in my last savage. Was cool to hear it shift 2 times, but was annoying to adjust it. I usually run a crap engine in the winter and a good engine in the summer. Having to adjust the trans in the cold for the crap engine sucked since it ran lower gearing.

I went back to 2 speed and sold the 3 speed with the truck when I got rid of it. It goes plenty fast for me. :)

Found a picco 28 on ebay for $230 and a LRP 32 for $190. Is the Picco worth the extra $40.

Your going to get a lot of personal opinions here as the whole picco vs lrp thing is kinda like the ford vs chevy battle.

In my opinion I would go with the LRP but either of them will be a great mill for your savvy!

I have both , and one thing I do no is the tuning window is a little smaller on the picco making the LRP just a little easyer to tune , they are both really good engine , I've had picco's , OS , HPI , traxxas , dynamite,SH and LRP's and seems like I all we's go back to LRP , I really don't like telling people what to buy I'm more in to telling how things work out for me ,so between Picco and LRP , LRP worked out the best for me

Xtm457 is a powerful engine that holds it tune well. I have one in my savage. I like it better then the K4.6 for sure
