Ok, so I get the call yesterday that my 1mm allen wrench made it in the mail from robmob. Excited, I stopped by the liquor store and grabbed some corona and settled in at home and began working on my two Mini-Ts.

I took the stock plastic pinion off and it seems impossible to press on these pinion gears even if I take the grub screw out of them. The thing is, at the base of the pinion there is a wider surface where the grub screw goes in. It seems like that is taller than the gap between the motor plate and the spur gear so I can't get them to mesh. It was the same way with my other Mini-T, which is why I couldnt use my Mini-Monster motor in it.

Is there a secret to pressing these dang pinion gears onto the mini-t? I also see RC18 pinions for sale under mini-t sections in online stores. Are those interchangable? I can't seem to get any of them to fit either, and there's no real good source of info online.

what pinions did you get. i got some Trinity pinion gears with the 1mm grub and they fit good on my Peak Performance motor. i got the pinions from my local hobbytown

I believe they are Trinity pinion gears Matt, but to be honest I'm not sure. That is somewhat of the mystery when buying used stuff is that you don't really know what you have. I do know the grub is 1mm for sure and they look exactly like the trinity set on towerhobbies.

So you put the end with the grub screw closest to the motor plate right?

I can already tell I need a new spur gear on my dual disc slipper. I was trying to set my mesh in the gears and wasn't exactly as coordinated when I started working on them as I was when I did that and I think I shaved the head off one of the spur gear teeth, lol.

Will any aftermarket spur gear work with the Losi dual disc slipper? If not do they sell just the spur gear?

They are Trinity.

I used a tapered round file and enlarged the hole in the pinion to make one of them fit.

no you need the dual disk slipper spur cuz they have the pads grooves in there for he pads that the disks slip on.

and yes they do sell replacement parts for the dual disk.
heres the part number LOSB1137. thats the 60T spur for the dual disk it should be around $3

as for the pinion. i know that the trinity pinion should fit on there. if you dont mind going out and spending $20 on another set that go to hobbytown and get it and see if it fits, if not you could always return it =]

or you could do that =] good idea Rob! ill remember that if i ever have a similar situation. i know i have the trinity 4 pack pinion. and they work great for me. sometimes the grub comes loose and the pinion spins free. but other than that iv had no problems

Cool, thanks for the tips. Hopefully I can get this figured out.

I've been going through interviews here at work for a new position. If I land this new job, which is very likely, I will probaly treat myself to Evo kits for the RC18 and the Mini-T as well as a brushless system for the mini-t. Ah, and I can't forget new radio gear... :)

It will be nice to spend some of this moeny I've been hoarding up for the move.

hey marauder, i just put that Losi racing suspension and i put 20 wt. i oil in there and now my mini is just like a few millimeters from the ground. did i not put in enough oil? or is there a was to adjust the suspension to make the ride hight higher?

i wanted it low, but not that low

Off hand I can't remember exactly how many, but I have preload spacers on both the front and rear.

Thank goodness for pics.

Oh, and Matt, I highly suggest this article. If you look closely at my front shocks you can see how ate up they were from not being spaced right, but now they don't touch or bind up during travel.

20wt is gonna be pretty soft. Even in offroad buggies they usually use something like 40 or 50 weight. Try some heavier oil and see how it goes. You could also add some preload spacers; if you don't have enough then use zipties.
