Maverick Quantam XT

New here guys and new to rc, anyway I bought my son a Maverick Quantam XT for Christmas. I also went ahead and bought 2, 3s 11.1 volt lipo batteries since the truck is supposed to be rated to handle this already, or so I thought. First drive with the lipo battery and the motor burned up in less than 3 minutes of driving. What did I do wrong?

read what was on internet and smoked that brushed motor .. unless you have the correct brushless motor with the right spur gear count n it it will overheat and smoke .most rtr that say 3cell lipo are ok for very short time under a few minutes like 3-5 some say change to this pinion like some brands. I looked up your listed rc . all I see with a 12 T was lipo mode..
