making my buggy 2 wheel drive??

if you are worried about weight dist. then just add weights in the front. What you could do is get old tire weights (the ones that they put on wheels to adjust them) and melt them down, make a mold and make mini weights. It's very cheap. then put a whole in the chassis up front and put a screw up through it. And put the weights on with a nut on the top. Just keep adding weight til you don't see any increase in functionality. This should work.

I got 2 center diffs coming from e-bay, one i will probly JB weld it, and keep the other one for a spare since i already got another buggy. o yea thanks ImBroken for all the extra parts, enough to build another one.

you say front wheel handles better than rear wheel.. however.. 4wd handles better than 2wd cars on the track..

dpk136- thanks for the idea, but i will wait and see how it performs before i add weights. if i wanted to get creative, i could move the battery box and stuff around.

dgrobe2112- Yea ur right but i already got a 4X4, acutally 2 of them(a t-maxx too). i just wanna see how a front wheel drive nitro performs. plus it will be different. i like to do my own little projects and things. like dual gas tanks. Done it on a Nitro Stampede, a T-maxx, and a sportmaxx. now I'm gona do it on a buggy.

The good thing is, it's not like it would be hard to switch back and forth between FWD and RWD =) That way you can really find out which is better.

my front diff case has aworking diff in it. the rear diff case has nothing, its empty. so if i wanted to switch from FWD to RWD i would have to buy a new set of diff gears cuz the other 2 or 3 sets are dead.

So you have no plans of making it 4wd again then? I beg the differ btw with the comment that front wheel drive cars always handle better and so on, but that is a different discussion. In either case, I am curious as to how this is going to work out, so let us know.
 
well whats the point of having 2 4wd buggies that are the same. I'm sayin something like a Ford Probe (FWD) VS. a Ford Focus (RWD). A probe is way better in the snow. well anyways... this project has to wait.. wont be around all weekend...

hate to break it to ya, but all foci except for the WRC racing cars, are FWD. (WRC cars are AWD) A better example in the ford lineup would have been a mustang for RWD. anyway have fun building that buggy :hammer: and let us know how it goes.
 
Yeah dude... the Ford Focus is Front Wheel Drive. Snow driving... again, that is a matter of opinion as far as what handles better. Let us know how it goes!
 
Front wheel drive doesn't necessarily mean a car handles better; it just has a better chance of getting better steering traction since all the weight is up front, and the front wheels pull the car where the wheels are pointed instead of the rear wheels pushing the car forward. This is great for consumer automobiles, because we drive on all sorts of surfaces - snow, ice, slippery wet roads, etc. You won't get stuck in the snow as much.

There's disadvantages to FWD drive though; you get less drive traction because a lot of the weight of the car is still pushed to the back during acceleration. If you slam the gas pedal, the front wheels will get less traction and they tend to slip a lot more then the car would if it were rear wheel drive. This is probably why you never see a race car that's front wheel drive =) They'd just spin the tires and never move. I had a 1993 Cadillac Eldorado with a 275HP V8 in it, front wheel drive. I could slam the gas and spin those tires like no tomorrow. But if it were rear wheel drive, the engine probably wouldn't have enough torque to do it, and the car would accelerate instead of spin tires.
