i built a ryft. sort of.
a few months ago at btc i traded for a few parts, foolishlky thinking they were for a different vehicle. turns out they were for the ryft, which i at the time did not own. so it started the quest for a slider or a roller, but money is super tight right now so i had to ask around.
@MVRCA was nice enough to sell me his extra parts from HIS ryft build, i was hopeful it would get me started and it did.
i already had the axles, electronics, myself. and a cage from another friend @270Crawlers . not the best start but it was better than nothing.

i got the parts in from mv, it had
skid plate, transmission, links, and a set of axles i could scavenge the internals for to put into my vitavon axle housings.

i started with the axles,
swapped the internals over to the vitavon axle.
then we attatched the links to the plate

the transmission is only on single gear, but i have the parts to add the s speed transmission, right now thoi am just leaving it in first gear,
attatched the transmission motor and esc

powered by a tekin roc 412hd 2300kv motor, mamba x esc, I'm keeping it on 3s so all my batteries will work. steering is a raw 500 servo. (so shiny)

first i put the links on wrong, took it all apart and then did them correctly, took a while cause i am easily sidetracked.
i still need a few items. need shocks, right now I'm using scavenged shocks and they are a little stiff so i need some good shocks.
also i dont have any steering links, so need to order a set when I'm able.
i only had one pinion gear that would fit and i forgot what size it was lol classic.
the shocks all got 50 wt oil as thats what i had on hand. tires are usd stickies, 2.2 on some nice injora beadlocks.
it works on the table!
i still need a little work to be done but its a start!

ill update this thread as i upgrade the ride.

the cage has had the back part cut off, so its sort of like a cab only ryft. I'm gonna be honest i think it looks kinda badass.
i apparently have a thing for cab only trucks, ( scx6, ecto, ascent, all cab only) the shocks are mismatched, ideally ill be able to find a set of dezert lizards ( i like them) and I'm looking at the treal 7075 aluminum steering links, i would like the truck to have the bling that all my other trucks lack. since its already started with the orange axles, i want to continue with that color scheme of black and orange and silver, so I'm looking for possibly silver shocks, orange links, orange trailing arms eventually.
i am eyeballing the rest of the vitravon parts in orange as well,
the steering knuckles dont want to fit the vitavon axles.
the normal axles have a pin in them to help keep the locked in, the vitavon doesn't have this pin hole. so the factory knuckles dont want to fit the vit axle so first after the links or ideally at the same time will be vitavon steering knuckles
i really think after those 2 parts i will be ready to send it up the hill we climb,

got a lot of help on this build from both @WickedFog and @Chubaka directly, and a ffriend price from @MVRCA for his spare parts ( which were exactly the parts i needed to get started) but also from everyone else on here. last year this would have just gone into a closet in a box to be forgotten, but I've learned a lot from all of you here on rc talk and I'm proud as fiddlesticks of the progress I've made with the help of all of you,
after i break this bad boy a few times i would like to make it into a crawler, not like a profensional comp crawler, but the trailing crawler i like.
a rig that will either climb that hill or jump that hill lol

Do I need to do anything with the servo like a bec? I could use advice 8n the next steps to get the most out of this servo? I don't have a servo saver yet either

The Ryft isn't a basher. It's made for climbing hills quickly, in loose terrain. You're not going to want to bash it on the street. So with that said, those big plush tires, and that being a pretty stout servo, you don't need a saver. Just remember what I said... this ain't no basher bro 😉

As for the BEC, the Mamba X has a plenty good BEC that is capable of 8v. So you have to set that up with the Castle Link.

I WONDERED IF THE MAMBA WOULD COVER IT, oops, i assumed it would but after my last 4 orders i cannot be trusted.

Yeah, the Mamba X has a 5v 8A BEC. That's pretty decent for one servo. I'm running the Tekin RX4, which only goes up to 7.4v. But it is 8A also and it does just fine. And since the servo will draw more amps at lower voltages, you will be fine running at 8v as long as your servo can handle 8v.
