Now that our season is pretty much done here until the spring, I've been giving alot of thought into what exactly I want to race next year. I raced 1/10th for most of the season, and enjoyed it alot. I have already made plans to purchase the AD2 for next year.

I guess about half way through the year, I bought a practically brand new K3 to do some 1/8th scale racing. I have enjoyed this as well, but there has been one thing that bothers me about it. The money involved. Not only the cost of the buggy, but the cost of a decent engine (at least $200), tires (60 bucks a pop), and so on. To me it just seemed that the cost was out weighing the fun factor.

However, I know if I turn around and sale my 1/8th scale setup, and just concentrait on the truck, that I'm going to be missing the 1/8th scale bad by the middle of next season.

whats a guy to do?

and just for the record, the money isn't a huge deal, as far as, not being able to pay a bill, or feed my mouth. It's more of a moral thing, like I could be spending or saving or something.

Just curious as to some of your thoughts guys on the money you put forth to this hobby. Seems like I always let my hobby decisions drive me nuts.

Personally, I'm all about livin brotha. You mentioned that it's money you "could be spending or saving or something". Saving is one thing, we should all be doing a fair amount of that. On the other hand, what other types of things do you feel you're missing out on that could use you're "1/8 money"? Are there things you need? like a new refrigerator or other interests?
If I'm fortunate enough to live a long life I'm gonna make sure two things happen with my money. First I'm gonna use it for things that I'm supposed to use it for. Secondly, I'm gonna piss away the rest on stuff that makes life worth it.

Yeah I know what your feeling. But I just traded my 1/10 scale for my 1/8 truggy. It was only a nitro Rustler, not exactly the best race truck around. But I just loved the 1/8th buggies. Racing the truck ,then playing "flipper", then tring to race the buggy was too much. And the driving was too hard to go back and forth on. So I gave up the truck. The buggy just drives soooooooo nice. I'm not "hardcore" racing by any means,so I dont have to have so many spare tires, extra mill, and so on as a true racer would. The 1/8th was/is just MORE fun for me.

lessen, good words to live by right there man.

Sure there are other things I could spend the money on. Electronics, clothes, and so on. But things I actually need, no I'm prett set there.

Man I heard that ! when I first started out my lhs was my best friend. Parts were breaking left and right on my hyper-7 plus lets not talk about my on-road ntc3 and then my g/f ntc3- opps she pays for it,lol and then my t-maxx. For me Sometimes things had to sit broke for about a week. Even though I had money to fix, I had to make sure bills had to be paid and money was put into the savings. But remember I said it sat for only a week. lol

Hobbies are for enjoyment. Who cares how much money you spend on it, if you enjoy it. If you are spending your money on necessities, good for you. If you are spending the money on your hobby that you should be spending on your necessities, then perhaps you have an issue. BUT in the end, it is all about enjoyment. If you are not hurting for coin and the hobby brings you happiness, then don't sweat it.

I now have three 1/8 scale buggies. My life and job have interfered with my use of said buggies to the point where they have only seen dirt three times this past year. I have quite a bit of money invested in them and am no where near a racer, but I guarantee you the three times that I ran them this year was well worth every penny.

I say keep the 1/8 buggy. They are the most fun of all the rc's I have driven. You don't have to enter races to have fun with it, just find a buddy and a bash spot. I found Proline Dirty Harry tires hook up well and last 10 times longer than crime fighters and other "race" tires. So just find ways to save money but keep playing with it.

Scott, raceing is all I do. No bashing for me.

I'm with sky i have alot of trucks etc. but my job is really keeping me busy these day, so i have to ask my self should i just sell them because I'm not playing with them...hell no even if i get to read poop on this forum and buy parts for it you gotta love it if you dont love it then its going to be a big burden on yourself i wont lie r/c's is a big waste of money but if it makes you happy and its your thing then POWER on..
