I got a good deal on a couple of diffs today. I was at my local shop today when I noticed these packages of Losi smart diff had alot of dust on them, obviously they had been sitting there for some time. I was able to talk them down to 40 bucks a piece, so I bought a center and a front smart diff. Half price! woo hoo!

Now I'm looking for some input. What experience do you guys have? Do you like them? Good or bad I want to hear your opinion.

I'm running a centre smart diff in my 8T.

It's not as if it offers a night and day difference in handling.

There is something to be said for the KIS rule - Keep It Simple . . . The smart diff just provides another part to maintain and service and adds another variable.

Lots of blokes down the club have tried them, fooled around with them by changing springs, cutting springs, etc and eventially gone back to the standard set up.

I'll pull mine apart soon and see if it needs servicing - might try to adjust it so it engages sooner (lighter springs) - if that doesn't make a positive difference, I think I will remove a variable (the smart diff) and go back to the standard centre diff.

Wont know unless you try though - have a play around with them and see what you think - your experience my be different to mine.

I've heard a lot of mixed reviews on them, most are people going back to standard though..

Haven't ran them myself though, may not with all the things i keep hearing about them..

Thought I would revisit this thread. I gotta say that I am not really impressed. I put in the center diff as my first test. I was expecting crazy turn-in and a steer with the rear exit, and what I got was slightly better turn in with and a lot of unloading to the front diff on exit.

At this point I was happier with the standard diff. It just suits my driving style better.

My update = pulled out my centre diff for a service - it was as loose as a goose.

Put in a standard diff with 15,000 oil - it was a bit too tight for my liking (was lifting the front wheels on the high traction bits of the track on accelleration and flicking the rear out on loose sections.)

I have a quick change centre mount - I took the diff out again and filled it with 10,000 = much better.

My opinion - save your money on the smart diff and spend it on the quick change centre mount - that way you can chance your centre diff oil quicky when required according to the conditions of the track.

KIS at play - Keep It Simple.
