So I managed to break the front "bumper" and part of the cage. I don't even remember a hit that would have done it but I saw it last night. LHS had my upgrades in and they also had a replacement bumper ($7). Got everything on this afternoon:

Wheel hubs and spindle:

I also did the servo horn. Here it is all back together.

I might up the pinion next. I can do one full rotation off my jump bit it just barely makes it. It's amazing how soft this thing lands.

I know you don't like T-Bone but hey have a pretty nice XV4 bumper (front and rear) for pretty good price.

I ordered mine from GoNitroHobbies on ebay came in 3 days.

If you get the rear, make sure you get the "upgrade" version so it works with your metal bracket on top of the rear housing.

TT

I actually looked it up yesterday. You are correct when you say I am not a tbone fan, but the reason I passed was because of the way it looked. It really takes away from the scale rock racer look. That said, if I keep busting the stock one I will most likely get it.

Shiny!

That looks like a lot of fun. I wish I could take it for a spin to push me over the edge to get one. I would have bought the kit but am now turned off to buying it RTR or B&G. I want one but I want to build it myself.

Man I really want one of these

I’ve watched a bunch of videos and it really needs to either be run on 8s or geared up on 6s. The motor is only 700kv. On 8s it will run over 50 mph which is plenty fast for a rig this size. It’s going to be hard to resist buying this truck, lol.

So I am in the process of doing more upgrades. I am just waiting on the alloy diff cups and then I can button her up. Here is what I added:

Losi alloy servo mount
Losi alloy bellcrank/servo saver

Losi upper and lower alloy bulkhead track rod mounts
Hot Racing rear shock towers

Mods I already did are Losi alloy spindles/spindle carriers, Losi alloy servo horn, Losi alloy front camber link.

I have 3 Exotek diff cups coming. Other than new beadlocks and tires, this will do it. I think :D

Was that esc mounting spot out of necessity from lack of space or a different reason?

That's where the stock ESC goes. It has mounting holes that line up with a plate and it screws down. The Castle ESC'S don't have any mounting holes so double sided tape and zip ties it is. I originally had a Savox 1210SG in there but the wire wouldn't reach. So I threw the 1256TG in which isn't waterproof. No issues so far.

I was actually thinking about how good of a spot it was for airflow and cooling. Didn't realize the mount was stock. Honestly, with all the metal upgrade parts you've added, that thing looks like a beast, and could handle anything you might put it through. Looking forward to more vids when the weather gets better.?

So I am looking at beadlocks - I already ordered Pro-line Hyrax tires and dual stage foams. The body panels are carbon fiber and will look like this:

I am thinking about these beadlocks:

Which hubs would you choose?

Black: https://www.amainhobbies.com/vanquish-products-xd-series-center-hubs-2-black-vps07720/p454550

Silver: https://www.amainhobbies.com/vanquish-products-xd-series-center-hubs-2-silver-vps07721/p454551

Vanquish also makes a ton of different color combos. I am open to suggestions.

EDIT: There is a little bit of blue on the rear shock towers. Should I look at the blue rings?

Thinking about buying the bnd any diff issues? Do you enjoy more then your BRCC?

I haven't had any diff issues so far. Mesh was great straight out of the box. The rear is locked so no internal gears or diff oil. I just went from 100k to 500k in the center. I haven't run it yet. I run 30k up front. The front diff is a pain to get to. You have to take apart a lot of the truck to get it out. I upgraded all three diffs to Exotek alloy cups even though I haven't had an issue. At the very least people suggest replacing the screws that hold the top of the diffs on. The come with really small phillips head screws.

I also upgraded the front diff housing from plastic to alloy. It just seemed like a weak spot. HR and Exotek make them.

Now the subjective part. Do I enjoy it more than my BRCC? Yes. It's a more complex machine that can do a bit if everything. That said it's not as fast as the BRCC. It won't jump as far as the BRCC. Out of the box I don't think it is as tough as the BRCC. It needs some upgrades, most notably tires. The stock foams are just way too soft. Great for crawling but this is a rock "racer." I went with Proline Hyrax tires and beadlocks. Total cost $274. I did go with expensive beadlocks but still. Not cheap. Hot Racing has a nice selection of upgraded parts as does Exotek and Losi. But everything is very pricey. The BRCC is definitely the cheaper option.

I love my Rock Rey. I think it is the best looking truck I own. It's pretty fast, jumps well and can handle all sorts of terrain. And so far it proven to be pretty tough. If you have any other questions feel free to ask.
