I have a quick question on Locking the diffs in my TLT. I've read up alot on ways to do it, but havent found out the HOW to do it. In the case theres a big gear, then 4 smaller ones (Connected with a T shaped thing) then another gear on top.. I've read to hot glue them, silicone them or Jb weld them, but I'm wondering HOW a person does this? A person fill the whole case or what? Any help would be appriciated.

Ok cool. Thanks! That helped alot. Thanks again!

I have a TLT-1 crawler that I locked the diffs with hot glue and it works great. The first thing you want to do is clean all the diff lube out of it I used carb cleaner, Then put it all back togeather in the ring gear then apply the hot glue and be shur to get it down inside the gears then put the Differential cover back on and let it dry. Thats all there is to it.

Silly putty works good too..And it is removable if you ever want to reverse the lock.

I locked them up tonight. I used Jb Weld. Think it went pretty smoothly. Them fricken diffs and the whole axles assembly sure is time consuming. I'm taking pics as I go so Ill be sure to post it up once I'm done. (Or at least to the good parts...lol)

Thats the beauty of owning a Tamiya LOL.

Did you run it with the locked diffs....big difference. The JB weld is removable is you ever want to unlock them, it comes out in chunks.

nope I just figured Id do it with the build. Its gonna be a full time crawler anyway, so I figured what the hell..lol..

So far the build is going good just slow... Which I guess was my plan, but man..lol.. The instructions blow ass too..lol Its still fun though

dumb question but i gota ask..............why would you want to lock up the diffs and what benifit would come from doing it ?

Locking your diffs Is what it is!
When they are locked (POSSI) all the power goes to both wheels.Locking them is a must with crawlers.

Like Zandor said..It is a must. The first time the front tires touch something and two tires spin while the other two just sit there you will understand!

IMO all slow 4x4 rc trucks should have locked diffs and four wheel steer.

It should be a man law.

Man law It is....from now on all slow moving RCs will lock there diffs

MAN LAW!

howd you lock em Phx?

Also as far as 4 wheel steer. I read about a "Y" link to put into a channel (I think if its just a 2 channel reciever) would this mean the're both gonna turn the same direction right? Wouldnt it be all the time and kinda suck? Or is there a switch? I wish they made a better controller setup for 4 wheel steer (Or do they?)

Yeah you have to run a servo y harness with reverser for the rear..and on clodh axles you replace one gear with a wider gear that accepts both axle shafts at the same time and thus locking them..ill see if i can find a pic.People use the traxxas tq remote quite a bit..over on rccrawler there is a big write up on how to mod it.
Ok .. both axle shafts fit together in to this:
BevelJoint.webp
Then the bevel gear fits into the locker gear on both sides ( i think):
tracGearInstall.webp
thus making it locked cause the axles can't do anything else but move together.

With a reversing y harness you always have 4ws want it or not. It's not bad once you get used to it. If you want to spen a few $$ for a better controller for 4sw this is what you want

The Traxxas TQ3 is the hot set up for 4WS. You can get it new for about $65.00 with all the mods allready done to it. Go to theCrawlerStore.com they have what you need.
