I am all too aware of what happened to skateboarding, and all I can say is if they want to ban it then use some of that park funding to make a place for it...I've been involved in a few NYC skate park builds and funding "quests".....if they are going to prevent you from using public areas to use your toys then they need to provide an area for you to use them.....being much older and just a little wiser I do see that the skating on office building steps was pretty destructive but hey what else would a rebel w/o a clue do right??
If your city bans RCs then you need to start going to city council meetings and petition them to fund a city park area for you....get a proposal and a group of guys together and give them a plan to keep your hobby alive...not to mention you can usually get clay from the city for free since they do all the baseball diamonds w/ it.....and running on a track is alot more fun that tooling around in your backyard...

I had a neighbor 3 houses down come storming across the yard fussing at me about the noise of me running my 1/10 truck on the road in front of her house. She pissed me off by her initial attitude. If she had come up and asked me not to run in front of her house, I wouldn't have had a problem with complying. But since she decided to be a bitch about it... I finished running out the tank in my yard and down the street the other way. Then I came in and looked up the laws and ordanences for my area and state. The only thing I have found about noise levels, has to do with vehicle noise. noise levels are tested at 50ft @90 deg parallel to travel direction and 70db to 86db depending on car,truck or motor cycle and speeds. Areas with noise restrictions are supposed to be posted at each end of the street.

To this date I still haven't been to radio shack the get a noise meter to test it, but when I do and find out that its w/i the legal limits, I will be doing speed runs past her house often. And as long as I am not hendering the normal flow of traffic on our road, (like my rc car is going to stop traffic, CRUNCH) I don't see where the problem is.

Id like to know how many times the neighbor lady has called the cops on ppl going down the street with load mufflers an radios that vibrate the walls. Not to mention the fire trucks that use our road as a thru-way daily. She better be glad I don't live right beside her or I would be out weedeating and mowing the yard every day.

Compared to you guys (and gals ?) i got life pretty easy.

Living in a lowrise towerblock aint easy at the best of times, but when i get my TT EB4 out, i get " F**K off with that thing you F**k**g A**H***E" and all because i fire it up outside my door, drive it over the path and off into the field in which i run !!

Even in the field i get told to "F-O". I've got nowhere else to run, no local tracks or racing freindly areas, so what am i meant to do ? Its gotten to the stage now, that i dont bother with my buggy, its just sitting doing jack s on a cabinet below eye level and looking "Pretty". I even have a half gallon fuel can with just 2 tanks out of it which I've had for over a month now, normally it would only last me a few hours.

So..... i say YES R/C'ing DOES have its problems. But none so severe that you are prevented from running AT ALL, Period.

THE PROBLEM IS, you can please some of the people some of the time, but not all of the people all of the time !!

Let me preamble this post with one comment: people will do what they want, when they want, and no one can tell them otherwise. With that said, just be aware I'm not telling anyone this is wrong, or telling anyone "what to do," it's just something you might want to think about.

The last thing I'd ever want to see is a series of stupid laws go on the books to restrict RC'ing. But guess what: it's already happening. In several areas there's already legislation specifically preventing RC'ing in certain areas. I know of one buddy in New York that has seen signs posted in a park, "No RC's allowed." That's no rc's - electric or nitro. $150 fine.

Over the years I've tried to make people aware of the potential for this, but to no avail. Like I said, people will do what they want, when they want, and rant and rave about it afterward, even if it's their own fault. The same thing happened to skateboarders. You can't even get on a sidewalk in most cities now because of the minority that abused the privilege.

So think about it, when you say "I'll fire up my nitro whenever I want," or basically annoy as many people as possible without regard to how they feel about it, you're making it bad for EVERYONE in this hobby. How would you like to not be able to even run an RC unless it's in an area specifically designed for that purpose? Pucker up people, it's this attitude that's making that a REALITY.

Like I said, do what you want, but when they slap a law or fine on you for running in front of your house, this will be why.

Ditto from me, I really hope you guys are operating your nitros with some responsibility. Hey I enjoy running my nitro in front of the house as much as anyone else, but I also know when is too late and too early. I like to be friends with my neighbors or at least get along with them and if the noise were to bother them I would probably stop. Even though your complaining neighbor is acting like an ass, you can still show some class. It works both ways, next time their loud exhaust, party, etc. is getting out hand, it's easier to ask them to shut off their loud noises when you have shown them the same courtesy.

Pinblaster, if the noise level limit is 70 db at your street you are already breaking the law. See my measurements with one of the quieter pipes available.

sweetdiesel, most ordinance measurements are taken at 50-100 ft away....at 1 ft you couldn't listen to a stock car stereo at 1/4 volume......do you still have the meter? I'd be curious what it read at 50ft.

I still have the meter, I could try a test at 50ft and see what types of readings I get. I know on my home audio system if I play music at 95 db (taken at 15ft) I get a ringing in my ears afterwards. I'll try taking some readings of the guy across the street when he rides his gas powered scooter and a couple of the muscle cars on the block as a comparison.

cool, I've never had a good idea of what is considered too loud by the law's standards....it would be interesting to know what is reality when someone starts making a stink over playing in the street w/ a fairly tame RC.....
