RC Driving Style
... this just posted on thedrake.net

A couple days ago my step brother gave me his LST to setup for his first race. I live three hours from my local track so to see where everything was at I ran the truck for one tank in the yard of my apartment complex, it was around 3:30 pm. After I was done and had the truck back in my apartment working on it the police came to my door, they told me that one of my neibours complained about the noise. I replyed that they must be wrong because all the people in my complex were gone. But they said that it was somebody from down the street. The police took me to go talk to the people that complained. the people that complained live over 100 ft. from where I was driving the truck. Once the police figured this out they wanted to hear how loud the truck was so one officer went back with me to run the truck while the other stayed to hear the truck from a distance. The officer could barily hear the truck and one of the complaining people told the officer that it was louder inside the house. So the officer went inside the house and I ran the truck again. While i was driving the truck the officer with me got a radio dispatch and without saying anything to me ran off toward the house that the complaintants lived in. I found out that the officer that went into the house found 2 pounds of crack cocaine and about five pounds of weed sitting on the kitchen counter of the house. Seven people were arrested. even after all this happened I was told that I couldnt run any gas/nitro powered cars or trucks around my house and if they caught me or had another complaint they would fine me for an ordinace violation of $500 and coficate my truck.

crazy it is

BS. I'd push the law cause unless they have a specific ordinance that calls out specific times of day and db levels, there ain't nothing they can do. What are they going to give everyone running a lawnmower or weed wacker a ticket too.

Yea, I would definitely contest that. I'd be uber pissed.

I've had the cops at my house before, and I told them it was not against the law to run my cars. My noise ordinance over here is 10:00 pm. Lately I've been running till ~9:55 or so. (BY GSM) T-Mobile's time is right on the money. :)

It's gotten to the point in my neighborhood to where almost everytime I run one of my cars, some one calls the cops. So I hardly ever run them in my neighborhood anymore..mainly because it's boring on the street/yard....so I get my fix from the track and construction site near-by...

But ya, that does suck for that guy...

Well, on my street it's maybe one or two people who would call. I tend to run when they're not around.

I've had the cops called on me before, but it was because I was running my car in the street (an on-road car, btw) to break in the engine. All I got was a slap on the wrist and told not to run in the road again...

Otherwise, I fire mine up any time of day (during daylight) and run them in the back yard (nearest house is less than 20 feet away). I'm sure I've been complained about since, but the cops here are so lazy, that unless they hear the words 'donut about to be violated', they won't do a thing.

Sounds like the cops here. Makes you wonder why they're picking on people playing with their toys rather than fighting real crime.

times like this I live in the sticks, and on a gravel road. My neighbors think my rcing is a relief from the dirtbikes..lol

The cops here are total Roscoe P. Coltrains. Right to the T. One got busted having an indiscretion ( ) in their cruiser.... Got broadcasted over the dispatch.

Yeah that was. A few years ago before my Dad retired from the Chicago Police Dept, he was in the crimelab and they had a IL State Trooper get asigned to the unit. Well this guy was moving from another part of the state to Chicago and was out house hunting. While they are looking at this one house he saw "the glow" coming from a back room in the basement. He asked the realtor to show him the room and sure enough they walk into Cheech and Chong's Next Movie. I forgot how many plants were there but it was enough.

Umm Hmm, I'm sure ALL the evidence went to the proper place.....

yay! 100 posts

Drug dealers are using too much. If ya live in a glass house, ya don't throw rocks. Most of the idiots end up on dumb crook news. It's too bad the guy can't run his car now. After all the people that were complaining shouldn't be able to hear it now. :)

I think if the neighbors complained about mine, I would get louder pipes and run them more!

cops & RC

My neighbors gave up calling the cops on me after I got on a first name basis with most of them but to tell you the truth I wouldn't want to live next to me LOL between my loud real cars Harley and all my RC cars and trucks I could understand why that would get annoying But Jet is right if you do it in the time range and stay with in the DB levels then you arn't braking the law . But I think the trick is to not run them for hours at a time in the same place .My Savage has set off car alarms so I'm sure it's over the DB level but you should call the state offices where you live and find out what the time range is and the DB levels are and also where you go to have the desable level checked WHY do you ask that I have all these toys??? Because I don't do drugs!!!!!

I hate people that set there alarms so sensitive that the rain sets it off. I usually keep walking back to give that car a little bump just to see the idiot keep running to his car LOL

Da Hellion

You make a valid point. I'm probably the only one who doesn't squeel tires on my street but the neighbors complain about my loud toy. There's no way my savage makes more noise than the sqaulking tires of a truck plus exhaust.

Another two cents.

My neighbours have slammed their doors and windows on the few occasions that i have run my 1/8th buggy around the back yard even for a few minutes. They havent said anything because i think they are concerned about my reaction or maybe they are still not sure if i am or not an undercover cop. I chose not to piss them or the other neighbours so i go to the shopping centre carpark with the 1/10th on road and the open park with the 1/8 th buggy.

Luckily no one has called the police or complained when I ran my Nitro MT and Nitro Evader bx, but.....
that may change when I get my Savage 4.6 out to run. Then again, no one has complained about my next door neighbors having a 60 inch big screen television sitting in their front yard for 3 weeks in the rain and shine.

Let me preamble this post with one comment: people will do what they want, when they want, and no one can tell them otherwise. With that said, just be aware I'm not telling anyone this is wrong, or telling anyone "what to do," it's just something you might want to think about.

The last thing I'd ever want to see is a series of stupid laws go on the books to restrict RC'ing. But guess what: it's already happening. In several areas there's already legislation specifically preventing RC'ing in certain areas. I know of one buddy in New York that has seen signs posted in a park, "No RC's allowed." That's no rc's - electric or nitro. $150 fine.

Over the years I've tried to make people aware of the potential for this, but to no avail. Like I said, people will do what they want, when they want, and rant and rave about it afterward, even if it's their own fault. The same thing happened to skateboarders. You can't even get on a sidewalk in most cities now because of the minority that abused the privilege.

So think about it, when you say "I'll fire up my nitro whenever I want," or basically annoy as many people as possible without regard to how they feel about it, you're making it bad for EVERYONE in this hobby. How would you like to not be able to even run an RC unless it's in an area specifically designed for that purpose? Pucker up people, it's this attitude that's making that a REALITY.

Like I said, do what you want, but when they slap a law or fine on you for running in front of your house, this will be why.
