He was extremely tame, he never bit me. I went with the black and white over the black and gold just for that reason, the black and golds are quite a bit more aggressive. He was still young though, only about a foot and a half long, he was captive bred, as were all my reptiles, and held often, so he was very tame. I kinda miss them all, but I definately don't miss all the cleaning and feeding, it got to be rather expensive, not to mention trips to the pet store for feeder something or other every two days.

I ended up setting up a breeding station but that was just alot of work instead of a lot of money....they stunk and once a big rat got out and crawled on my foot while I was sleeping.....he went right to the boa tank.....I wanted the Black and gold tegu but they had the one I got in a tiny lil cage and I felt bad for it....he had enough room to curl around...no walking......I got rid of my reptiles when I found out kid was coming.....was it the work for you that did it??.....God knows I thought about it because of all the work...every nite I had to clean something for an hour....too much to deal with....

i know how you felt NCnitro. i once has 2 tokay geckos 1 golden 3 anoles and a pure breed persian cat. i had to feed evryone clean up and i also had a seperate tank for crickets and they dont shut the hell up for nothing and depending on what you fed them they about had a nasty smell.

a good tip to anyone who has a lizard that eats large crickets is put them in a cold room (the crickets that is). they tend to slow down and are not as loud. also if you have crickets that smell bad its the crap that causes the smell so find something solid to give them not only fruits. fruits are pretty much the reason they smell so bad. i gave mine bird food and never had a problem. I'm still doing it now.

just some info i wanted to share.

how often do your tokays bark?
those were another breed I didn't take because there was one that ran loose in the shop and kept making this god awful noise when you least expect it....and you can just take the crickets ina bag...put it in the freezer for 15 seconds...they slow right down......

my tokays barked when ever i put my hand in the tank or it some one passed by. these have some crazy jaw strenght too. i got bit and actually started bleeding.

the one that ran around the shop was about 10-12" long...I think he could cut half your finger off if he grabbed it...they are just nasty attitude lizards....I think they have a napolean complex in their genes or something

the one that bit me was a whopping 13 inches and his girl was about 8 -10 inches. the boy looked like a crocidle. was the one in your shop a pet? it is VERY rare you get a tame captive breed tokay.

well it was supposed to be but he escaped from the tank....it wasn't my shop...I made friends w/ the owner by helping him design some really cool display tanks...the shop was called Lizard Breath 2000....LOL...it was in the Lower East Side of manhattan in the early 90's....the owner was really cool but had problems selling his stock to people he just got a feeling would not or could not take care of the animals properly....he had a writup in the times and we bred the first Argus Monitors in Captivity in North America....was a cool shop to stop in and see what was going on......there was a room in the basement w/ some real exotic snakes...Suranam Boas and a 20' reticulated Pythin named China.....she wrapped me up once...gave me a whole new respect for reptiles man.....another snake knocked me out but didn't constrict me....I was blacking out as I was watching the thing slide around the floor...wild poop I tell ya.....

not trying to hi jack or nothing but today was feeding day for my ball python. i usally give him 2 mice and thats it. but the last 2 or 3 feeding he seems to still be hungry. i know the general rule when feeding snakes which is they can eat some thing that should match the thickest part of their body.
do you think he might be ready for rat pups? i never seen a pup in front of me so dont know how big they are.
