LCG chassis with Capra axles.

3250kv 10 pole motor. It broke the Capra axles with a half dead battery. And I was driving it like I did not want to scratch the paint. Without the portal gear reduction and overdrive gears up front, it can’t get high centered. Full throttle makes it go to “giant tire “ mode. And no problem with mud anymore.

I drilled the 3D printed bed out like Swiss cheese and went from 95 grams to 85 grams and then added brass C hubs. Gotta wait for the knuckles. But this moved ten grams from up high in back and put 14 grams low and front.

I like the stance a lot .

Got it done!!

Ready to retest tomorrow on the big rocks. I traded the titanium steering link for stainless steel. Added brass C hubs and brass knuckles this along with the 10 grams I removed from the bed got my balance point exactly where I want it. 60/40 balance and under 2500 grams.

This thing just killed it. Every major obstacle completed on the first time out except the impossible climb. If I start about 1/4 the way up it’s fine. And you need to make a jump but today there was a big puddle. I beat it up pretty good and almost landed the jump wet. So I’m pretty confident it can do it dry.

I even got to show off. Something I’m not used to doing but a bunch of people had gathered at an obstacle I spent months figuring out. This rig is much more competent but the obstacle is a trick. The vehicle gets wedged and starts to move sideways because all four wheels have traction. Suddenly the rig is sitting on top the gap and drives away. Heard one guy go “WTF” when it went up.

And I did not break it. The Kratos ten motor is amazing. The wheel speed will launch this thing vertical and yet is creeps better than most brushed systems. It’s not as smooth as brushed but the punch is worth the trade off. And the low speed is really good.

I did not know this was even possible but I noticed I could get out of trouble by easily walking on the back or front wheels. Rather than fall back it would just sit there and I could tap reverse and go on.

I have never seen this before

This thing is awesome. Gotta change the thread title to LCG with AR44 axles. The wider track makes it difficult or impossible to squeeze between some of the rocks. Capra axles don’t work in this area.

As for the impossible climb. It just did a short hop and drove up.

This area has a bunch of obstacles and about six are ones that just can’t be done most of the time. This rig will create new lines.

The motor started makeing a terrible noise at low speed. And got really chunky. I changed batteries and it stopped. The battery was about dead.
Not sure what that is?

This video is not great and I will fix that next week with a chest mount camera. Also I was going to edit the video but it shows what I do at these obstacles. I have spent months and a lot of changes to get my other rig up this. With Capra axles it had no chance. I could not get close enough t ok the gap before it would tumble. But this thing did it twice yesterday and today it did it and then it did it for the camera. Mostly it was me just figuring out the correct line to get the rig to fall properly without tumbling. Now that I have the line it’s repeatable and looks easy.

This is just a stupid notch and the camera was in the way to get a proper line but it’s a cliff edge with just enough room to turn around. This notch is just the perfect size for the skid to clear.

.

I tried to take some more videos but the camera was set to photo.

I changed the motor to a 2000kv yellow jacket outrunner from 3 brothers. It pulled 100 grams off the center of the rig and has plenty of power. It’s different the way they deliver power. I’m going to try it out next weekend.

The 2000kv yellow jacket made a strange noise this morning when I gave it power. Like the wires are mixed up. Then suddenly it totally erupted in smoke. All of it got out quicker than I could catch it. And I don’t know how to put the smoke back in. So I changed back to the Kratos 10 motor and went from a 10 tooth to a nine tooth to just slow it down some.

I’m still playing with the video thing. I thing I need to back off the zoom a little. Just a quick test with the nine tooth.

Yeah, that's a genie that's tough to get back in the bottle. Sorry to hear it smoked on you. Still looks like the other motor is doing alright.

Got out again this morning very cold and windy with rain coming in. The G shot did great yesterday and I wanted to do a tire test. I switched to the Proline Krawler TA tires from the Hyrax. I really think the Krawler did better today. I got some footage of the run.

You suck! Nobody should have a crawl spot that cool! Man, I wish I could come join you. That was some of the coolest RC'n I have ever seen. More vids like this please!

Why do think I build crawlers? This place is epic. And fifteen minutes from my house.

They are getting dialed in but all ways finding new lines. And doing things to make improvements. It is a nice spot
So modest. In the voice of Jeremy Clarkson - "It's the best crawling spot......................in the world".

If you don’t want to do technical stuff you can drive around and climb any level you rig is capable of. So trail trucks and scale rigs are a blast here also.
