Hey all, I'm getting my first Nitro today and I have two options that were given that would be good to start on.

The Vorza 1/8 by HPI
1000000721.webp

Or Inferno by Kyosho 1/8
1000000720.webp

I'm new to RC so all advice would be great and yes I know that nitro comes with a lot of tuning, tinkering and fixing as well as a learning curve...it's what makes the hobby attractive to me not so much just plug and play

Thanks everyone and I look forward to the help

Johnny.

Kyosho??? Huh? What?
I am a big Kyosho fan so right off... 🤣
Aside from my HUGE bias, are you running on a track or is this at home?
If at a track, what are the other racers running? Having a friend on the track who also knows your car maybe could lend tuning tricks or a spare axle shaft to get you thru your raceday.
Do you have a local hobby shop that carries either of these brands?
Assuming you will be breaking stuff like most noobs do, local parts coverage could be important to you.
Just a couple thoughts before I'll say
KYOSHO RULES!!!

Both are awesome, if it were me, I would compare parts availability.
They are both great quality rigs so I'm sure there are no issues finding parts.
Simple solution actually, BUY BOTH.;)

Welcome in!
Wish I could help, but I don't know much about nitro cars. If I was in the market for one of those, I would probably do the Kyosho.
Just my opinion.

@Lostinthewoods86 might have some insight into the Vorza.

If it were me, I would definitely go with the Inferno. But download the manual and check for parts availability.

But to be honest, I think you might want to keep researching a bit.

One thing I would consider is look at some used Tekno's. You could probably pick up a nice one for that kind of money, and it will outlast both of those put together. And parts availability is phenominal for them.

@Littlemotor might be able to give ya some expert input on buying the right nitro buggy, new or used.

We got the truggy version FWIW. I would look elsewhere if I were to get another (knowing what I know now I would go tekno like wicked mentioned.

Both servos went out fairly quick, steering went first which we aren’t easy on them 😅 (just bashers here). The throttle servo went out not long after. Shocks are terrible. Engine blew up (that was most definitely our fault though 🤣).

It’s way overpriced for what it is in my opinion.

I'm not racing just yet and I plan on practicing at home until I am certain in my skills to compete with other skilled drivers and I ended up choosing the Losi 8ight 1.8 Nitro as the guys at the local shop said it's also a good beginner Nitro on par with these two, but I may reconsider in the next day if the car can not be shipped.

Well I ended up going with the Losi 8ight 1.8 nitro after being told it's on par with with options above but I may reconsider if the car is not available.

I've seen these around on shopping and they look very nice. I haven't heard of them before and I'm glad you have brought this up and I will look further into them before my decision is finalized

Tekno is by far better than anything you've mentioned. I just built their short course truck, and I have been in this hobby since the early 80's. I have never seen a nicer RC. Not even close. If you have any RC racing going on near you, there will be deals to be had locally.

I've been checking them out and they're more high end than the ones I've listed and a lot more expensive.

I ordered the Losi 8ight after the hobby guys said they could order it for me because they said like the two I listed, it will be a little more easy to learn, work on and easier in the bank for beginners nitro

Those teknos look very clean and very nice. Maybe when I get down the road in the hobby I'd like to get one of those but they start out at like $700

That's why I suggested a used one. Racers, who are typically the guys buying them, generally take really good care of their RC's. And you can find some really good deals on used Tekno's.

Hey I'm not sure if I replied yet but my hobby shop carries a lot of Arma and Traxxas. I will also be using these outside for learning. My hobby shop can order other stuff for me and talked me into the Losi 8ight 1/8 Nitro which is on par with my girlfriend's new Arma Typhon 1/8 electric.

I'll probably want to get another car shortly after learning and saving more money since they're more upscale and pricey and will be looking into these Kyosho and Teknos as they seem to be pretty popular.

I did see that you bought a Losi! CONGRATS!!!😎👍😁
I fell in love with Kyosho decades ago.
I have had other brands but I really like Kyosho's quality and durability so I keep coming back.
My current Optima Mid project is 38 years old! I think the fact that its STILL in such good shape says a lot about the quality and the design.
Kyosho had a LONG run of titles and championships in nitro. I honestly haven't been following nitro closely for some time though.
I just bought a Kyosho Mint Las Vegas and an MP6 though. I miss running nitro and I look forward to getting them running again! 😎
They both need resto. For now, they sit.
I enjoy a challenge and I'm not trying to win a wotld championship with these cars. I build them because I love them.
I am VERY curious to see the new Infernos on a track.
@Littlemotor is THE Tekno nitro guy here! He loves them and swears they are the best nitros a person can buy.
Even if you don't ever buy the RC's that he is building, you NEED to read his threads! They are FILLED with info that EVERY RC'er NEEDS TO KNOW!!!
He will talk about things that most ppl don't think twice about. I have been in RC for decades and he is reminding me or teaching me new stuff constantly!
He's one of those guys that will make you smarter, just by hanging out and watching him work. 😉
I love RC. I think Losi is a good brand and they have good parts coverage.
Its a perfect buggy to get going with!
You've got time now to experiment with other brands and more experience will only help you to find 'your' brand and what you like. Once you know what you want and have some experience working on them, you'll feel much better about making your RC purchases! 😎

POST PICTURES!!! Let us know how your RC works out. Open a build thread so we can follow along with upgrades!

You'll find most ppl here are very willing to lend a hand when you have a problem. Its a great community! Stay involved with it! 😉

There are LOTS of exceptional builders doing amazing things here. Poke around and you'll see! 😎
