Hello Friends,

I have bought a Nitro RS4 RTR 3+ evo, I haven’t started it as yet as had issues with the glow igniter and getting a replacement, which is a bummer.

I was going through the HPI instructions manual about break in and it says the following

• New engines need a break in period of 3 tanks of fuel
1st tank
After the engine starts, let it run with the wheels off the ground for one tank of fuel
2nd and 3rd tank
After the first tank, drive the car in a circle at half throttle for two tanks of fuel

Engine Tuning After break in
After break in the high speedle needle must be tuned for high performance running, to return to stock break in setting turn the needle until it is flush with the sleeve

Tuning High speed needle
Turn the high speed needle clockwise in ¼ turn increments.

My questions are as follows.

Q) Although it gave a diagram for high speed needle, I couldn’t understand the FLUSH with the sleeve part of it, I couldn’t see the flush settings, I mean how do I set in on flush as I don’t see that flush position, kindly help with a diagram, thanks heaps

Ras

Flush with the sleeve means that the top of the screw-head is level with sleeve surrounding it.

I would not break-in your rig with the manufacturer's procedure. That is old-school and causes pre-mature wear. If you need a tutorial on proper break-in procedures there is plenty of info here on it or I can give you the nuts and bolts if you need...

P.S. Here is a direct link to the preferred heat-cycle method: https://www.rcnitrotalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=42716

Hummm... The one posted is a two screw. On a three screw the idle needle will be a very small screw set into the body between the HSN and the carb throat, or on the throat itself.

ok now i'm even more confused lol.....i just went out to the garage an looked my carb has FOUR screws...i have the hsn, the lil set screw that you said, the one in the end that the throtle linkege hooks to, and one in the opposite end of the carb:\:\

Flush is just flush with the sleeve right around it just use your finger and run it across the screw head and deal if it's flush. I have a evo+ also. I used the instructions to break mine in since it was my first nitro and it's running awesome and very fast! Already through my first gallon

The screw that is set flush is factory stock. That's the LSN, and it controls how the engine idles when set in conjunction with the idle speed screw. The LSN also determines how the car launches from a dead stop up to about half throttle. It needs to be leaned out to improve the low end performance. Too lean will also cause an overheat, so keep an eye on your temps till you have it right.

Here ya go.......

on this end of my carb where yous is silver mine has a screw in there to what would that before???

Are you absolutely sure it's on the same side as the HSN? Do you have a LSN on the other side as in this pic, on the bellows side?

If you have the screw in the end cap of the slide on the same side as the HSN, it would be what's known as a 3 needle carb. The idle adjustment screw is NOT a needle.
The needle in the center of the carb slide is a metering valve that's factory set and should NOT be tampered with. It will offset the behavior of BOTH of the tuning needles.

He has an evo+ it has a low speed needle and a high speed needle and an idle adjustment screw. I havnt seen any other screw on it.
