I might as well get a build goin for this since I will be hopping this baby up as time passes.

Okay just got my first 2 packs through it, hurray for NiMH......... I must say this truck is pretty quick for all around stock, then came my first issues.

I have a small hole in the tranny cover which I know I need to patch, but then heard a clicking during my 1st run. "Oh must be some dirt" nope it wasn't, I just pulled the cover off and it apears that I somehow warped the stock spur gear because it has a bend in it and the noise appears to come from there.

Second off at the end of run 2 my truck just died, I had steering but no throttle, this was odd because it is not a lipo so there was no cutoff, got to the truck and the motor is slightly smoking and hot as the dickens, couple moments later I got maybe 5 seconds of dead battery acceleration then died. As of now I get acceleration, BUT only one wheel turns, even when I hold the dogbone that turns the other one doesn't do much to nothing. So I am leaving it into the SCT guys hands on what may be wrong here?

Thank ya much!

Check the tightness of the slipper, ad make sure your gear mesh isn't too tight. If you only have one wheel turning, pull the trans apart, you may have cooked the diff already too.

That motor could be fried, but if not, take it out, cut off the capacitors in the wires, and on the endbell, hook it up to a C- or D-cell battery, drop it in water for five minute increments until the battery is dead. Make sure the motor is DRY, then give it a whirl. I would have told you sooner, but I thought you were pulling it for a brushless system right away.

I may actually go brushless if I can find a nice used setup for somewhat cheap but if I need to replace the tranny I wanna turn around and beef it sup and possibly gear it out. Thanks for the input I knew youd be first on it since you have one of these badass rigs

UPDATE: Not sure if it matters but I took the motor off and hooked it up to the esc and tested, still turns good, I rotated each dogbone on the rear differant ways to each other (one clockwise, one counter) and rotated freely and I'm pretty sure if shouldnt do that lol

Well, since the motor is good, do the water break-in before you use it again. Pull the trans apart, take the diff out and pull that apart, maybe you just sheared a pin. When you put it together, use 5k or 10k diff oil, and use RTV sealant to seal it, with some green slime on the o-rings. Beyond that, I don't think there's much you can do to beef it up. And honestly, you shouldn't really have to.

Okay I dont see any capacators on the motor wires itself but I think the ones on the endbell look like a tiny brown advil with wires going to each + and -? Its safe to dip the whole motor into water? Hmm, I will give it a whirl tomorrow morning. What about that spur gear being warped, is it okay to run still? The mesh was good but how tight do I want my slipper?

Thanks buddy!
I say tomorrow morning because I work graves now and am off to bed lol! Makes me mad I can't tinker on her now....

That's right, you bought it used. The previous owner probably cut the wires already. Yea, cut the little pill off the endbell.

How bad is the spur warped? I'd maybe get a new one before running it again. For the slipper, start with about one turn out. If it feels loose, tighten it in 1/8th turns increments, loosen if it feels tight. I know when mine was too loose, I tightened it some and the motor didn't run so hot.

It feels okay now it was a tad loose, lol I stripped 2 hex heads on the diff and snapped a ball-cup or whatever these are trying to clamp it down to drill so now I need a whole new diff and a ball-cup.... Bed time lol F this for today

Wow, mine wasn't that tight!

Ya lol I'm pretty mad but just got another whole diff set of feebay so should be alright after that. As far as the A-arms go, do they make RPM style ones that are just as tuff? I always manage to break A-arms on everythging that goes fast the I drive. I will have to stay brushed for now until I get these problems taken care of and the feel for the truck.

RPM isn't making them yet, need more demand for them. Losi, however, is going to be selling their EA3 arms, which I believe are stronger than the stock arms. Those should be out soon.

How many tooth is the stock spur? I should just get one as a just in case'r or what tooth setup would be good, I dont plan on going brushless for awhile I still have an XR10 to finish.

I am going to pick some lipos up in the next day or so, whats a good 2s and 3s discharge rate? I was lookin at some 25-30c but want to make sure I get some sort of run time out of a 5k pack. Is the hardpack lipos the best way to go?

Is it smart/wise to run 3s on a brushed setup?

Stock spur is 88t, get the kevlar gear. 30c should be a good discharge rate, and I wouldn't put a 3s on that esc.

I have a tekin fxr I will use until I go brushless. What's a good site to get my upgrades? Thanks for the help 13

I buy all my stuff from A-main, but I usually drop a $100 for the free shipping and $5 discount. Usually takes me about a week or two before I fill an order.

Okay, just got my diff set and need help building, any ideas on where I can learn to do so? It has no manual so I can't look in that.... I should have pics up later when its put back together

Thanks guys!

Okay I got the diff together, working on getting it back together and upated with pics, currently attempting the water submerging break in of the motor. The motor isnt the stock one its a team orion 21x2 Method R, anywho I cut the advil capacitor off of it and now it isnt working when I hook a D battery up to it......

Previous post gave me some time, hold your fawking horses!:D

Okay got the diff the other day and just put it together today. Got it all back together, plugged a fresh pack into it, and it acted like it was dead but I know the battery was charged. I thought the pinion was too big making the mesh super tight so I switched it to a smaller pinion and same thing. I'm thinking the motor is shot or a put too much diff grease in it making it really sticky when she turns. Anywho I will wait on a pro to chime in on their opinion, for now, heres my PICTURES SOMEONE HAS BEEN WANTING!!.. :D

Okay just took the pinion off the motor and tried it again, either my pack is bad which I dont think it is, or what I am thinking is that the motor is shot..... Yay.....
