It could have been end point settings. I just kept messing with settings on remote until the kill switch stopped turning red. What does the end points do?

End point settings are pretty much just what they sound like.
You would set your end points so that your servo isn't being driven when it reaches the end of your steerings physical movement. Stops just short so that you won't break your steerung parts, servo gears or put a megaload on the servo because its trying to push against the steering lock. That load can and does "brown out" a radio system.
Another thing that happens is when someone upgrades a servo with a real big one.
The servo uses way more power even though its not getting to the end points yet.
This is why ppl use BEC.
BEC will power a servo direct from battery power without overvolting it.
The servo gets all the current it could ever need and the esc and radio don't have a servo load to contend with.
Its possible that your servo is faulting your kill switch imo.

Does your radio have end point adjust or steering trim settings? (they sort of do the same thing.)

Thank you. Starting to understand everything a little better now. New to 1/5 scale. Went with the cheaper rovan model to start with.

Oh yeah! Even more important that you understand your radio gear and how to operate it BEFORE you start running!
Those 1/5 scale buggies are monsters! They WILL hurt someone in a collision!
If you have questions about your buggy, please ask so that you feel good about the owners manuals and YOUR gear!
I'm not saying you CAN'T break it by messing around with the buttons and knobs BUT by understanding everything, you'll be far less likely to have problems like these in the future.
PLUS you happen to have a pretty smart bunch of ppl here who are willing to help out!
Be safe with that buggy and post some pics or videos so we can see it!!! 😍😍😍
