I just got my engine re-pinched by OS rocket. I heat the engine up to about 200, on the third rotation of the crank, the string broke...

This is an OS 21 RG. I lubed the internals before putting the engine back together. Took it out today to try and break it in and broke my knuckles and pull start. I have 2 more pull starts, but man, I can't believe the pinch.

I don't even have the glow plug in and I can't turn it over with the pull start. Since the starter broke, I pulled it out of the truck, and hooked a drill up to the starter shaft. Now, with the glow plug out and a space heater on the engine keeping it around 150-200, I'm firing the drill up and trying to get it to release the pinch enough so I can actually pull start it.

I've never bought an expensive engine where break in was such a biotch. This is a severe pain... I hope this thing lasts awhile or at least runs or I'll be pissed.

Anyone have any suggestions? I've been spraying wd-40 down the carb and in the gp hole to keep it lubed as I run the drill. I have a feeling I'll be doing this all afternoon :(

Guess were not bashing today??

Best bet is to break it in within a buggy w/ a box starter. (To ease up the pinch)

hmmm, that's weird, i know when he pinched my novarossi, the starter box had no problems turning it over at all

sounds like it got strangled instead of pinched......it does go through the whole stroke though right???? it's just really tight??? or it's not moving at all....

I just sent my S-25 to him yesterday, I hope I dont have the save issues. Just in case, I am putting in an order for a new pullstart

its called over pinch!

best thing to do is send it off to someone to get it relieved

i had a few buddies that had the same prob when they got their

p/s back from OSrocket they wound up ruining there rods

and still never got the engines running had to send them off to get fixed

i suggest sending it to www.rayaracing.com and let him know its been over pinched

just my .02

Well, I got it running. But after running a drill at 1K RPM's on the starter shaft for about a half hour. I didn't spin it dry, I kept squirting wd40 in the carb and in the gp hole as it was rotating. It worked it's way up to 120F just on the drill.

I finally got it to run in the savage, but it's fighting the pinch so much that I'm not getting a lot of punch out of it yet. I ran about 1/2 quart through it and broke the pullstart again. I ran a few tanks through really rich on a stand at about 1/8 throttle to get it up to 220 or so and let it stay that way pretty much through the whole tank. After that, I took it out and ran it rich, but not real hard. Just hard enough to see how it was reacting. Every time it stalled though (only a few times in 10 tanks), I had a hella time getting it going again.

If I can get the crank at the very top of the downstroke, then rip the cord, it pulls over. But, if it's anywhere near the up stroke, I'm screwed and have to spin the flywheel over with channel locks (or tap on it with a screwdriver/hammer).

My guess is that it will wear itself into shape. I just hope the con-rod holds up.

Regardless what happens, I'm saving up for an XTM 24.7. Not to much power, but enough to make you dangerous.

Oh yeah, I'm probably done for the weekend as I can't even make a fist with my hands and every knuckle is missing pieces... stupid engine... At one point, I had blood all over the poor savage.

Yea yoyur overpinched. If you can keep it going at 220 for a few tanks and the con rod holds up I should think you can get it broken in and get it running good again.

The XTM 24.7 is a great motor, but you can get a SH .28 for 130$. You may not want all that power but just letting you know you can do that. Good luck with the O.S.

it will work thru i had the same thing with my os .12 i had osrocket pinch for me ,
once i got it rebroken in it was awsume ,
it will get better and try wearing gloves,,lol
j/k
take care of them hands

You know, I gotta wonder, have you contacted OSRocket to see if he'd fix it?

that resizer would be fine but they are for specific sleeves have to get the 1 for your motor and look alot better then a method i heard of ,
hose clamp a stove and cold water ,sounds like a good joke for jeff foxworthy ,you know your a redneck rc racer when ......

J/K lol
nevertried that method and dont think i ever will ,i will stick with os rocket

and i am sure he stated in a email that his pinch jobs are very snug ,but will work them selves in
just my :2cents:

here is a litte input since i am being referred to, if it was overpinched the first thing i would have done is email osrocket and he could relieve it the same as ray!!!!!

the pull start RG engines are one of the harder to set for the pinch because there is very little pinch to begin with and all the guys that i do like them extra tight so they last longer, yes you may have to replace the 12.00 rod, but if it is in need of a pinch the rod is questionable anyway,

also the squeezer ring is garbage as anyone will tell you it makes them out of round, you may as well trash them after that,

i started this 6 years ago approx. 2 1/2 years before ray came up with the arbor press and slug deal, and i did many for him before that, and i do it on a cnc controlled machine which is highly accurate, but most important is my service is perfect and all guys will tell you that from experience, And when we attend the big races (200 plus entries) matt(my son) usually always makes the A main in 1/8 buggy expert and also 1/8 unlimited truggy, running O.S. engines that have been pinched and polished , not modified. Again you will never hear that i have not taken care of any of my customers all they have to do is ask, thanks johnb (osrocket)
email is [email protected]

I had my 24.7 pinched bu OSRocket. It was very tight, I think tighter than new, but it runs awsome. More low end then it ever had and it idles strong. Give it a chance Olds you will like it once it gets broken in.

first and foremost welcome to the forum rocket ,and thank you for coming in and clearing thing up here about the pinch thing on ebay ,i am a firm believer that if the p/s can be repinched that you and only you will ever do anything that i own,
take care
rick

i know i here some of this stuff but stay pretty busy with the resizing, and don't always scan the boards, but i have so many repeat guys like you they usually keep me posted, thanks jb

Hey JohnB, thanks for stopping by. Good to see some true customer service. Hope you stick around here as I am sure many others will have questions about your service before they make the leap. I can't wait to get my s-25 p&s back to see how good this service is. Got a new rod and pull start just in case though :D
