I was forced to work a boat load of overtime last week. Instead of using the extra earnings on something practical that requires more hard work like much needed landscaping for the home, I used it on something that would help round out my collection of fun toys.
You gotta have priorities man.
Found it used, for cheap, since it was not maintained ever. Came without the battery or stand. Whatev, I dont want your lame spektrum battery anyway.

I can help ya out with that
Ill ship you a pound of dirt and you in return send me this speed boat. Not with a spektrum receiver you can keep that lol. 🤔 🤷‍♂️ 🤣

Step 1: cut a hole in the box -NOPE- never mind that. That is something entirely different.

Step 1: clean this thing up. - it was obvious the previous owner let water sit in it after a run, it has a drain plug you dummy.
Step 2: remove the flex shaft. It was so corroded that it took some heat from a soldering iron and some shots of kroil penetrating oil to dislodge it.
Cleaned it up the best I could, greased it and used the purple lock tite on the grub screw. I also removed the motor and cleaned it up, it’s really rusty and the bearing is most likely shot. I sprayed some kroil on it and let it soak in, it feels better now but, this is on the replacement list.
Step 3: order some SMC 3s 1800 mah batteries. Best bang for the buck and fit perfectly. The stock would be a 1300 mah. I also purchased smc’s sc5 connectors to put onto the esc. The batteries came with the sc5.

You know what happens next
Step 4: Testing- it runs well, a little choppy on the water since the prop had some damage I didn’t see before. Tuning the trim tabs helped a little. The self righting feature doesn’t work, but turning the rudder and hitting the throttle worked.

That receiver has given me problems on other vehicles in the past, this one I conformal coated and it is doing well so far. The transmitter has a self righting button that doesn’t work. Eventually I will be putting it on the radiomaster. 🤷‍♂️

During the first run at a local reservoir, I noticed the prop had some flat spots. This wasn’t the stock plastic prop. Someone used some heat shrink to adapt a 3/16” bore prop to this 3mm shaft. It worked well enough I say.
I watched some YouTube training videos on how to sharpen your prop, and did just that.
The next trip on the water was way smoother. This thing fricken scoots dood.
Today I worked on a few modifications…

Cooling mod: Separate the cooling tubes. The esc and motor share cooling in series. The water comes in, goes through the esc then through the motor. It works on 3s and that’s all these electronics are rated for. But what about 3s Hv??

That ought to be more efficient. Added a pickup tube and water outlet. The stern of this boat is busy.

Battery tray delete: the battery tray works just fine but, this boat is only about 15” in length and hard to get your hands into. The battery is strapped down with Velcro and it’s a pain. I removed the tray and ground down the front mounting post. Laid down Velcro in the hull. Perfect. For floatation I put some pool noodle pieces off to the side.

New Prop: Oxidean Marine 3514 prop. I haven’t tested it yet, it’s bigger than the one that came on it ~34mm od with an unknown pitch.

That’s all for now. 🫡

I forgot to mention one other reason I got this for cheap even though the owner claimed it was only used 4 or 5 times and less than a year old.
A local shop was trying to sell it for the guy, the tx/rx wasn’t working anymore. I noticed right away the rx wire was cut/frayed and knew the idiot nicked the wire when adding his cool antenna tube.
Did I take advantage of them because they have never encountered that problem? Yes, you bet your momma’s sweet tea I did.

Congrats on the purchase. I hope you have a blast after a stern cleaning. I too just bought a boat. Gonna have some decals made up with a boat name......... "full of seamen".
I love it
