Well, the Baja is finished (for now :D), even picked up a couple mods for it already. Finished up the graphics tonight, big thanks NCnitro for all the paint advice, and to SNG over at L2Designs for the personalized decals.

Gotta have one of these on it

Also picked up a couple of mods. First up, I switched the plug protector with a carry handle from the 5T.

And I picked up a Team GoNads X can for it over at LSF

looks great! dont forget to get a kill switch and some outerwears for the pullstart and filter

I like that 5T handle... will have to snag me one. I hate how close the stock one is to the spark plug.

In case you aren't aware, the 5B is also really good at making birds nests... With some careful lexan cutting and a few more 5T parts, you can help avoid it. In stock form, the area around/under the engine gets fully covered with grass/leaves.

You know, I've only got to run half a tank through it so far, but I did notice an unusual accumulation of stuff in that area upon teardown for cleaning. I was going to get the outerwears for the pull start, crankcase and air filter. Where did you use the lexan and other 5T parts to alleviate this Olds?

Looks great get some dirt on it !:p:

Oh, you better believe it's still a basher, and will get it's fair serving of dirt (cover your eyes Rolex :D) Weather looks good for this weekend, so I'm getting everything ready, and will have some video for you guys, including on-board footage.

The 5T parts that will help are the rear under guard and side pods.

5T engine guard and rear skid thing:

I put lexan plates up on the chassis as well. Doesn't look that great, but fairly effective at blocking the areas that guard didn't cover.

I used some mesh to cover the pull-start housing a bit, the rear of the engine where air is sucked in and the chassis. All to help keep debris out of places it shouldn't be. On the chassis and near the engine where there were still gaps, I put in relatively soft foam as a barrier. Like under the receiver box and under the rear of the fuel tank.

A few photo's:

The guards I made for the open area under the body near the engine:

Kind of hack, but seemed to do what I wanted. Keeps the crap out and is fairly durable. Just used an old parma body I had and hacked out a few pieces, then heated it with a torch to get it to bend and hold a form a bit.

Now I need to get some window covers from FullForceRC to block even more and maybe figure out something to cover the gap between the engine and fuel tank.

It's funny how I've never had much of an issue with my other RC's... guessing the 1/5 scale engine with the fan sucking air causes new problems we have to deal with if coming from the nitro or electric world.

Very cool, thanks for the pics Olds. I too will be doing the full force window kit, and I'm going to dig around tonight and see what I have laying around to block off the chassis sides from crap. Hmmmm, I know I have some old window screen somewhere.

I'm like you, in all the RC's I ever owned I've never had this issue. I think the engine fan is part of it as you mentioned, the other thing is that nothing I've ever owned tears up ground like a Baja; literally one pass sliding through the grass and it was dug all the way down to the red clay. Luckily, they're very easy to tear down for most normal cleaning.

Oh man she looks fabulous indeed man nice job! Wish I had the fundage to throw down on a 5b or 5t or the new 5t sct I think its called? Anywho she looks good

I was going to have to replace the stock with another. I figured what the hey. I also added the Outerwears pre-filter and the pull start cover. I bought them to do their jobs as well as dress the rig up. I need to post some pictures here before I tear it up too badly flogging it.

Well, after looking at it for a bit, I didn't like the gray beadlock rings with the black and orange theme, so I painted them.

I also went back to the stock exhaust, as someone on another forum mentioned without stingers, the X Can would spray everything with oil. No thanks, gave that up when I left nitro rigs. I did however replace the stock clamp I lost with something stronger

I also switched to the 2 degree rear toe blocks, and cleaned and lubed my bearings while I was in there

I also checked my CVD's for any twisting, checked the boots for grease, cleaned / lubed all the pivot balls and suspension hinge points, and double checked the tightness of all critical fasteners. I have to say, I'm enjoying going through all of it, I feel like I adopted an animal or something, giving it the life it should have had. :D Charge my receiver pack, and oil my filters and I'm ready for this weekend.

As it sits now, I like the black rings much better

Got to have one some day. Problem is, it makes your furniture look SOOooooo small.

Rolex if it proves to be durable for bashing, I think it (or any 1/5 scale for that matter) is the ultimate RC car. I had drooled over other's 1/5 scales here for far too long. I was going to build an AR-15, but I think I'll enjoy this more since it's cheaper to take it out and use it.

LOL, yeah, I wasn't aware the Baja would be taking the WHOLE spare bedroom / storage room. :D Just more motivation for me to buy a house with either a basement or a garage.
