I was wandering why so many people hate the TRX 2.5 whats so bad about it mine works just fine and gives me good power and speed. But remember I am a neb. just started 3 months ago.

I didn't have any problems with it either. I wouldn't worry about other peoples opinions of it if you like it. But to answer you're question... quite of few people say that it's hard to hold a tune.. but like I said, I didn't have any problems with it.

Mine would hold a tune fine, but it was running at 300 degrees with no power and constant flame outs. I tried adjusting 1/16 of a turn for about an hour... needless to say, I gave up. I tried 3 different fuels, a couple different grades/types of plugs and lots of needle adjustments. I even tried a different head and an OS carb. None of which helped. I dealt with it for about a gallon, then I gave up.

Also like Olds i had over heating issues and tried multiple things i put a AMCNC head on it it helped lots but was still up around 250-260. When just lightly bashing never mind hard bash sessions so i went and got me a FR18.

I always ran mine between 230-250. performance seemed peek right in that area. I had run it a couple times around 270 but with no performance gain. I was using odonnel 20%

If I tuned to get the temps below 270, it would load up so bad that it wouldn't go WOT clean enough to clear its throat. I just had a misserable time with the engine.

The BIG problem with the 2.5 is a really lousy cooling head. Get a bigger head and retune it. It was magic for mine. I tweak a lot of engines at the LHS for guys that run at the track, and they are ALWAYS 2.5s. The only time I work on other engines are when they are brand new, and after break in, I tune them for performance.
Anytime I'm adjusting a 2.5 I tell them to get the ACNCM monster cooling head.
I also agree with Lesson on the temps.

Not to pick at a scab... (bad analogy), but don't you think an engine that needs that big of a cooling head has some sort of issues in design? I haven't dealt with a ton of engines, but I have run through about 10 engines and in the 10, 5 different makes. None of them had this bad of a heat issue.

Like I said, I did try an aftermarket head that was substantially bigger than the stock head. I think it was a "King Headz" head. Maybe I just had a bad 2.5.

Anyway, I hope you don't run into the same stuff I did. If you do, throwing money at it may not help. After I spent $60 on a new head (the LHS ripped me) and $60 on a new carb, that would have paid for a different engine. A little more and I could have bought an Epic 18 or a Fantom.

Hindsight sux.

I run my TRX 2.5 between 200 and 220 and never had a problem withe plugs or over heating I run Blue Thunder and I get my Maxx to 35 mph I used a GPS but the only time I had heating issues was when I ran Odonnell but not with BT.
