hi guys this is my first post so bare with me. i have a hsp atome warhead its my first nitro buggy) but i think the engines shot on it, there plenty knocking about ebay so I'm wondering, are nitro engines a universal fit? like electric motors on electric cars? thanks

Well, there is more than likely more than one that will fit into your rig, but I don't know your rig, so I can't really give you any links.

Do you know what type of engine you have?
Big block/small block?
Standard or pilot crank shaft?
Pull-start or bump start?
Rear exhaust or side exhaust?
Rotary carb or slide carb?

Knowing the answers to those will allow me to give you some links to decent engines.

EDIT:
Did some googling for the "hsp atomic warhead" and came up with a 1/10 4wd 2 speed buggy. The engine in it is a small block, rotary carb, standard crank, side exhaust, pull-start engine.

This one would work perfectly and is a good solid engine:

hi thanks for the info yere that is the spec of my car. i was hopeing to maybe put a bigger engine in? maybe a 21? also they guy that i bought the car of says that the engine ran ok untill he fitted a rod start to the engine and since then it will turn over but not fire? what should i look for that could be causing the problems? cheers

IMO, a 21 in a 1/10 scale anything is just asking for problems. The OS18 with a good pipe and header will be better than what you had.

As for your not starting issue, could be a few things. Installed the one way backwards and your trying to start it in reverse. Bad air leak due to improper sealing when put back together. Drill isn't spinning it fast enough.

Then the typical stuff, no fuel, no fuel priming, dead plug, dead heater...

hmmm ok dont mean to sound dumb here but which way should the engine run? i took the starter cover off and theres a nut with one way bearings, sohould the engine run clockwise or anticlockwise? oh and how do i test the compression on the engine?

+1 with that OS motor. I ran one in a 10th scale Stadium Truck, before handing it off to one of my inmates to run in his 10th scale buggy. He can out run the revo 3.3 in dirt and grass.

With you at the back of the engine and the carb pointing away, the shaft should turn clockwise.

If you spin the bearing clockwise by hand and the crankshaft doesn't turn with it, take the bearing off and put it on the opposite way and try again. If it still doesn't turn the crankshaft, then either something is busted inside the engine or the OWB and shaft it spins on are too bad to grip.

You can try soaking the OWB in DA to loosen up any sludge, then twist up a paper towel and stick it through the bearing and spin the bearing on the towel. I usually wet the towel where the bearing spins to help wash out the gunk.

When clean, I put a drop of 3-in-1 oil on the bearing and clean the shaft, then put it back together.

I'm also +1 on the .18. I put an O.S. .18 CVR on my rc10gt (1/10 scale stadium truck) and it is way more then the truck needs. Its really hard to keep it straight. It wants to do doughnuts not matter what the surface.

to check the compression on the engine turn the moter clockwise using the flyweel if there is compreshan when the moter gets close to tds its got compression and the moter it good thats how i check mine.
