I picked up a set last night and built the pack.
Damn, it took forever to charge up. I'm only on my first cycle and these puppies "SEEM" to be beefy.

They went up to 4400 before they peaked @ .03 on the drop.
My first discharge at 30 amps yielded over 520 something seconds to 5.4v.
They held about 97% power until well after 360 seconds then only dropped slightly maybe only 5% for another 75 seconds then they started the downward dump.

Just wondering what you guys are getting out of them....
 
i don't run them because they are not roar legal. i heard they pack a punch though. i am personally keeping away from them because all the charging methods going around are all different. some people dead short them, some tray them until 0.0 volt but don't dead short, etc.

also make sure that the track you race at allows IB3800's. the track i race at doesn't allow anything more than GP3300's.

I just called my LHS that sold them to me. Even though the club races here are ROAR, they allow them under house rules in every class except Pro. I didn't think they would sell them to me if they didn't allow them. It was good info and I thank you for it.

I planed on cycling them down to .09 is there a reason I should go to .1,0, or dead short? I'm still new with electric racing and the tricks of the track. I'm running in stock sportsmen on road this weekend and need all the help I can get. They wont let me run in novice where I think I belong. I know I'm going to get my ass handed to me but how bad is to be seen.
 
I plan on running 14 of them in my Brushless Maxx.
 
smc-racing says tray at 0.9. charge at 6A @.30mv. they are the only battery matchers that have published this info on their website. the battery cells are very, very new. they have only been out for a couple of months.

if you really want to have an edge over the competition, you can do the following:
don't hit the boards because you lose battery power for every hit and start dumping earlier
get some professionally tuned motors and run xxx brushes
get a good speedo like the KO vfs-1
find the correct rollout
get yourself an xray T1FK05!!!!.

Last week was my first time on an on-road track and the first race with an electric TC.
 
Ed, keep checking your camber and toe after your heats. All TC's alignment will change after a while but the TC3's were notorious for it after just a few hits.

I brought my setup system with me last week but never took any bad hits. I'm sure that will change this weekend. This track is much larger and open then the one last weekend and will have 12 cars per race as compaired to 6. I'm looking forward to getting my ass kicked and learning a few things. I'm feeling excited about racing again. This is good.
 
Some of the guys I run with have changed their pivot balls to the hardened ones from the Losi XXX-S. They gave more added bite in the plastic because there were more threads on a longer shaft to bite into the plastic.

I just order a set of the ib 3800 7 cell packs for my maxx.
Do you have to discharge them or can you just run em dead and recharge?
 
You can do it either way. They don't have a memory so you can charge them at any time. You will get maximum performance and life if you properly peak charge them and discharge them.
 
Try to time it so that you peak just before your heat or main. Don't turn on the car till it's almost time either
 
I've done some testing with the West Mountain battery analyzer (disclaimer, it only discharges at 12 amps, and I've not tested IB3800's), and here's what I've found works best:
* Cycle the packs the night before @ 30 amps, then tray them down to 0 volts. Keep them on the tray til your ready to charge.
* Alternately you can dead short them, only after they've been on the tray for 2-3 days. They try to "grow" in charge during this time. After 3 days, they won't.
* I charge at 6 volts. Opinions may vary.
* Charge them on race day, and like FastEddie says, time them to peak right before your race.
* If they've sit for more than 15 minutes, you can top them off, but won't perform as well.... and perform worse the longer they sit/re-peak.
* NOT RECOMMENDED: charging them the night before and topping off before the race. This will NOT give you top voltage.

Hope that helps. Electric touring cars are very nimble and fun to drive.
