I found this pic of the SH .28 on another site. Looks like a sweet motor huh until you notice what happened.

Can you say OOOOOOOOOOOOVVVVVVVVVVEEEEEEEEEEEEERRRRRRRRRRRR RRRRRRRRREEEEEEEEEEEVVVVVVVVVVVVVV?

my first car was a 72 spitfire that had the rod dangling through the block when I bought the car for 100bucks......I could put my fist in the hole......needless to say we replced the engine w/ a GT6 and all was well in my world as a teen lookin to get some from his car....

that sucks ass.. one of my buddys just cratered his 1:1 drag car motor.. sent a rod through the block.. one of the track guys walks over to him and says "here ya go buddy heres part of your block" lol

I have seen that at a race. It was like a demo on what happens to those who run their cars incorrectly. Of course the rod was a lot bigger and the block a lot thicker!

From what I understand theres talk about a batch of sh 28's that are bad from the factory. This has happened to many SH owners. I was going to get this mill untill I heard about the STS 28. The STS conrod is made out of 7075 alum. That was my deciding factor between the two engines. I still havent broken the STS in yet...waiting on parts from Tower.

If there is such a thing as a "bad batch" from the factory (and not the fault of the owners) it will be interesting to see how SH handles the claims. So far, SH is denying it

I did that with my riding mower a couple years ago while I was sitting on. Not fun, at least none of the shrapnel hit me in the leg when it detonated! That little box looking thing around the rod sticking through the case, is that part of the cast? Wonder if that's a weak point in the casting.

Man, i don't get whats wrong. It looks normal to me. So this is what i narrowed it down to:

Correct......that's not supposed to be there. It came out for fresh air. Not a good thing. It's supposed to stay inside and hang out with the piston.
The 'hole' is just a space between the engine block and the mount. Everything else is fine.
