RC Driving Style
I ran into NitroDave out at Tacoma's RC Raceway today. The .21 Maxx conversion isn't the easiest thing to drive on a narrow track. Being a poopy driver doesn't help a whole lot, either. Before I made it a quarter of the way around on the first run I busted a steering knuckle. Good thing they stock some common replacement parts.

We got a few good laps in. I gotta get an FM radio so I don't hafta wait for someone to give up AM channel two.

NitroDave had errands to run and I wasn't exactly performing there either so we both left.

NitroDave? Kwong? I found a pretty good bashing spot in north Sumner close to where they're building the new 167 offramp. The "no trespassing' signs I had seen at one time were gone. On top of that there were quadders, karters and dirt-bikers out there having a good time. I won't speculate on who took down the signs I had seen the last time I passed there.

I was havin' a great time. One of the dirt-bikers stopped and recognized my truck as a T-Maxx. His employer is a nitro enthusiast and has an off-road track in his back yard. I gave him my email address. The biker said his boss isn't looking for money but is just welcoming bashers and racers looking to have fun. So hopefully I'll get an email from him.

So the broken steering knuckle at Tacoma RC Raceway wasn't a big thing... But then I hit something hard on the Sumner dirt. I'm thinkin' a rock.

Aren't hinge pins supposed to be longer than that?

Now that I'm home and I've disassembled the truck to assess damage I see that the left half of the front bulkhead is somewhat tweaked. I was looking at it thinking: "Here is where SkyMaxx says: 'I told you so'".

Screw aluminum arms. Buy RPM. Yeah, it was a show truck but I wanna drive it too.

I'm down for a little bash session. I finally dug out my Savage today and did a quick run. What's kinda weird is that my high speed needle was stripped out. I'd get it running decent, then all of a sudden it'd lean way the fiddlesticks out....to where it was barely running.

Anyhow, it's fixed but I haven't had a test run with the new needle. So i'll do that tomorrow.

Maybe we can bash tomorrow? I got madd homework but I could have it done by like 12pm or so....but I do plan on watching the matrix sometime after 5pm tomorrow.

sounds like u had a whole lot of fun today!!!

so are u going to go to RPM now? i have UE widetrack suspension and been to the track many times and have had some narley crashes and havent done anything to mine!

by the way when u going to make ur way down to Tri-Cities?? i know where some good bashing places are.

lol - Sky is such a prick isnt he?!?!?

But let me just add to that, "WE TOLD YOU SO!" hehehehe

Metal arms AND metal bulks is bad bad bad IMO. One will give, if not both! (feel the love!)

Sounds like you had a blast regardless. Wish I was there to have some R.C. fun. If you could, ship me one of those signs. I need one more anyhow..... ;)

What kind of hingpin was that? Never seen one snapped like that before. Must have been one hell of a crash! Bravo for driving it like you stole it!

wdavidhicks,
Contact member scottm, http://www.rc-solutions.com He has bulks for sale that include hinge pins that "Will not bend or bust". The will be released to the public soon. I have cardinal knowledge of them and they are a unique design. The bulks have set screw holes to hold the pins in due to the fact that the metal is so strong they couldn't find a way to groove them for e-clips. scottm says that several times during betta he has completely ripped RPM A-Arms off the pins / bulks with out an damage.

A set is being reviewed by NC Nitro as we speak. Here is an advances photo of the pre-production bulks. I understand they will be offered in several anodized colors.

Let me throw my two cents in here. So I am hanging at the track trying to learn to drive my RC10gt. I also have my maxx, just for fun. In walks hicks with his beast. After waiting for the freq clip, hicks finally get to drive....sorta. BTW-time for an fm synth hicks. wdavidhicks truck gets a lot of attention at the track, for good reasons. The thing is a beast. hicks goes tearing down the small straight away, sorta makes a turn and sorta just goes everywhere. It looked like glitching to me, but alas it was just the driving style. The knuckle breaks and after a repair it is back on the track. My favorite moment was when wdavid goes tearing off down the straight away, slams on the breaks and goes flying into the way all out of control. All in all pretty funny. hicks maxx has more power than is necessary...yeah right.

I think that hicks learned a little lesson yesterday...driving in a specific pathway can be difficult.

Even the best of bashers get humbled their first few times on a track. Don't let it stop you its the next evolutionary step in learning how to control your RC. I guess the saying "speed is nothing without control" takes on a new meaning.

Keep up the good work.

I still can't drive an MT on a track for poop! Unless the track is the size of the one that NA has pics of, MT's dont belong on them IMO.

Oh, and I can't drive anything else worth a poop on a track either lol

Yeah, I know that feeling. I drove my GT yesterday, for the first time, I learned that I have a heavy brake finger, from all my bashing with a T. I did start to get the hang of it a bit...

I learned that I need practice before I attempt to race, but I really want to race...looks like so much fun.

If I ever learn how to drive well on a track, I will never learn to shut my mouth. Most places kick people like me, unfortunately. I just can't refrain from the word 'poop' in public. Momma aint raise no etiquite here....lol

Thank you all for the kind words, suggestions and salt for the wounds!

I had actually bent some titanium hingepins several months ago and needed to go back to some steel ones I had. That section of steel pin was cleanly sheared on impact. The rest of the pin I can't even get out.

Supermaxx, some friends of mine go quadding out at Moses Lake every now and then. I'm thinkin' I might join them out there with the Maxx in sandrail mode some day soon.

Thanks for the bulk hint, Eddy. I pm'd NC for his evaluation and ScottM for price and availability.

I think the most humbling part of driving on the track was watching everyone else blaze around the track and then hit the brakes as they came up behind me. They'd hang back for a second as they jostled for a position to pass a drunk driving an out-of-control semi.
