I'm in the market for a new engine. I have a Kyosho PureTen GP Alpha, more of a bashing/muck around car than anything and i want more power and quality in the engine depo. At the moment it has a Kyosho GX15(.15) eng in it and its quite a... simple engine. It only has 3 bolt holes(to attach to the chassis) and a crappy carb design. I want to keep the power down a little bit coz my mate bought a .18 to replace his stock .15 and it sheds gears like a meat grinder!!!(goes like a bullet tho).

what do you recemend that has good bang for its buck and is a .12 or .15???

I'd say anything by OS would be good, relativly inexpensive and OS is known for their relability and ease of tune.

Like Jon says....you can't beat an O.S.

BTW, I have a new O.S. .15 for sale...super cheap. PM for details.

Mr T

In order to put any other engine into that pureten, you need to get the optional engine mounts. The kyosho engines have a different mount than we are used to. I have a Kyosho FW-04 and it has the same engine as yours. Do your research first and find out what you need to get befre thinking that you can just drop in a regular engine.

Ooops

Like Jon? Whos Jon?

Sorry VB, for some reason I thought Jon2 had made the post that you made.....momma always told me smokin that stuff would make ya stupid.

Mr T

Diver6127, I know i need engine mounts etc. Their not hard to get. I have a custom made engine holder for my thing now. It wouldnt be hard to make a newin'.

I was thinking OS. How much more power would it have than my GX15 would it have. I can't find the specs of it.

Thanks for the sugestions!

The GX15 is highly underpowered. It makes roughly .68hp. An OS .15cv-rx (1.2 hp) would suit that car perfectly. I didn't do the conversion since my FW-04 is basically a "trainer" car for freinds and family that want to just give r/c's a try. It doesn't get them into too much trouble since it's not a very fast engine.

The OS 15cv-rx is discontinued but some places still stock it.

I would vote for a Picco or Sirio. I just dropped the Sirio Evo 2 3-Port into my NTC3. She is very nasty. Right now, it's actually too much power for me. I just need to work on taming her. You can't beat a .12 pushing 1.5 hp and 36,000 RPM.

But if you want some real power from a .15, check out the Sirio .15 (S15TUPAF). She is rated with 1.7 hp and hits 39,500 RPM! She will surely leave rubber flying off your tires. You can find it relatively priced. Stormer has them on sale for only $150. Here is a link:

Hobbypeople actually have it for $130, however, they are sold out, but I'm sure you can put it on backorder. Here is link:

Also you can check out this Picco .15, specs are pretty good and the price is nice for what you get. She is listed at 1.3 hp and 34,000 PRM for only $110. Here is a link:

But if you are looking at an O.S. egnine, here is a chart to let you know each engine's specs. It gives you HP and RPM's.

Just keep in mind that your at .68 hp right now, so any of the above engine will definitely do your car right.

They sound great DL... But I'm in Australia and shipping would be pricy. But just converting the price, The Picco is ~$180AUD after shipping and sounds great. I might see if I can find one a little closer to home. Is there a model of it that comes with a pullstart? I dont want one with too much power because I dont really want to go through spur gears like crazy.

Thanks for all of the research DL.

Shipping shouldn't be that much, around $15. If you don't find anything local and really want something from over here, shoot me a PM. I don't mind getting something & mailing it to you. If I send something Global Priority Mail, delivery time will only be about 6 days.

Later....
