About the only good thing that happened today was watching the crash. The truck took off and barrel rolled 3 times then it hit a huge ass tree heat sink first. I'm just wondering if its ruined or if its still going to work? Hope you guys have good news for me, haha. It kinda looked like this

That damage is mostly aesthetic. It will still work just fine with one or two missing fins. It just won't look pretty. You can dull the edge of that broken fin with a dremmel tool. That way you don't get a cut from your engine.

You may want to give the engine and drive train a good look over just to make certain everything else is all right. Usually an impact that will take off a fin can also do damages that might not pop right out at you.

That was a rather clean break, lol. Remind me of the time I was still learning to drive the Storm. Off of a 5 foot hill, half of a front flip right onto the heat sink against a rock!

youll be fine when i still had my stock 2.5 head on i had 3 broken fines and it still worked fine just make sure you didn warp the head thus making it not able to seal good

If it impacted the engine,I think it would be wise to check your gear mesh before trying to run it again.

What the hell is my gear mesh?

Ben

Gear mesh would be the meeting of gears and how they interact. In this case, he is referring to the proper gap between the spur gear and the clutch bell. The engine may have moved due to the impact, and thrown the mesh out. If this happens, the chances of tearing up a spur gear or worse increase dramatically. If you need to know how to set gear mesh, just ask.

Here is how I set my mesh:
"From another SkyMaxx post"

Setting gear mesh is very important to the longevity of both gears and the components driving and being driven by the gears.

Here's how to do the mesh check.
1. Loosen the screws that hold the motor mounts to the chassis plate (don't take them all the way out).

2. Make sure you have both spur gear and clutch gear on properly (since you've mounted the spur and the clutch is attached to the motor, you probably have little to worry about here).

3. Take the plastic bag that the spur gear came in (a ziploc bag will work just as well) and place one thickness of the plastic between the two gears.

4. Push the motor back into place so that the two gear compress on the plastic.

5. Tighten the motor mount screws (making sure that the motor mounts are as square to the chassis as possible...you want the gears to have as even a surface to surface contact as possible).

6. Pull the bag out. The gears should rotate freely and mesh together just right.

Hope this helps...

You can substitute a sheet of paper for the plastic bag, but I find that the plastic works much better and provides a more reliable mesh. Just my method.

I find it scary that he runs nitro but does not know what gear mesh is. Thank god he asked and ol Sky was there to lay down the info.

Sorry I'm not down with all the lingo yet buddy!

take it easy on him. We all know we have been in that boat before. You don't just start nitro and suddenly be a professional.

Yup. This forum is here to help everyone as much as possible. You have to admit that everyone starts somewhere. I DID. SKy was there for me as well. the sarcasm is just part of it. Lets just ry to help along with the sarcasm.

The damage to your ride is minimal. The gear mesh.. well Sky sums that one up for ya. Good luck !:naughty:
