I'm ready to pull the trigger, I just can't decide. Mugen MBX-5 Prospec or Jammin X1-CR. I'm was leaning towards the Mugen but I'm hearing tons of great things about the Jammin. Kyosho is out of the question, I can't get any parts locally. I've seen and driven the Mugen and it's a masterpiece, but the unknown of the Jammin is what bugs me. BTW, this isn't a "Which one is better?" post, I'm just ranting. Any X1-CR Pro owners here?

I have been bashin the crap out of my X1CR and nothing broke so far. But, MBX5 is still a very good buggy.

Its really depends what you want to spend.
X1CR at $480+ and MBX5 $690+

Also please take into consideration about parts availability at your LHS. You can buy all the parts online, but you never know you might need parts on the same day and willing to pay a little extra.

Read an article in one of the radio control magazines; they had a competition of "best" 1/8 pro-level buggy in this shoot out. The 777 sp. 2 (is that the name??) won first place, the X1CR was a close 2nd, and the mugen a close 3rd. So there you go...but the X1CR is about $100 cheaper.

Which one can you get parts for easiest?? Which ever it is get that one and you'll be happy with it. (X1CR looks nicer IMO though)

both are good, strong buggies. I tend to see more parts for the Mugen in my LHS. But the jammin is a pretty kick-ass buggy. Either way, you'll be happy.
I also think Mugen has the edge on aftermarket part makers.

Yeah, the price tag on the Jammin is attractive, but I'm willing to pay more than $700 for a kit if the car is worth it. I have good radio equipment and servos from other projects I've had, and a brand new O.S. .21 RG to run until I get around to buying a race motor or two. My local track doesn't have long straights so good bottom end torque is more important than top end. Durability is the only thing I'm not sure about with the Jammin. I see Prospecs run all the time and it takes a lot to break them. Haven't seen a Jammin run yet.

As for parts availabilty, my lhs doesn't have any Jammin parts, but I'm moving to Erie, PA in March so I don't know what shops carry there. The aftermarket for Mugen is a lot better right now but that could change as more and more pros switch to Jammin. I think I'm leaning towards the Prospec now because there's not as much I would want to upgrade out of the box, might be cheaper in the long run.

Check this out www.eriercraceway.com looks like that will be my local racetrack in the future. They run indoor nitro off road. Anybody ever been there?

you better stick to the mugen
it's the best car all around and parts are available everywhere
durability is the best also, ride also
but you could have more joy driving the jammin at least in the beginning
but with mugen, no worries are a joy to...

all bugs seem to be resolved with jammin now
except some brake issues and suspensionarms tend to bent after a 1/2 saison but are cheap to replace

change the order to XB8......C'mon why are people so afraid to try this car???
I bought an MBX right after my XB8 and sold it very quickly.....less turning and unstable in the air....XB8 just flies right

ppl are afraid to try the best i guess lol

There's a couple XB8's @ my local track and they are fragile. The one guy is a good driver and is usually fast but breaks all the time. I just talked to him and he's planning on getting rid of it. So basically I don't want a buggy that is very fast but not very durable. You have to first finish before you can finish first, and I rarley see the Prospecs break anything.

the xb8 in europe has some very bad reputation
not for his quality
but people got rid of it till now
because it didn't drive well at all, say the least
with the new long soft suspensionarms and the TQ sets
things get alright..

but did you ever see another name driving a xb8 in the top 10/30
after the name of Yannick Aigon in any european or international GP ?
even in the us,wheelers or others, rarely make top 5....even regionaly...not much
or they are represented in great numbers...
I got practicaly all results all over the world in my pc

= ok, it flies like a bird, but till now, this buggy just didn't drive well enough
certainly not for the quality it's made to
in europe, you could beat it easily with a mbx5, 777, jammin,
even a TTR, 7.5, mayhem or lightning2..it just is the worst driving buggy...

I agree they are beautifull, nicely build
and robust ( if the steeringrods don't pop off..or rods break..)
and they are the easiest to work on
but look at my list, of all I had to buy
to get it going, till now in euro =

:
Kit xb8 690,00 (: ok for what you get!!)
New battery reception 30,00 ( :dead on delivery!!)
new engine flywheel 25,00 ( loose pins!)
new main gear 22,00 ( : broke)

engine bloc nova 55,00 ( :bell touching chassis)
(New Chassis 5 holes 78,00)
4 white springs 18,00 ( in the rough..)

front suspensionrods (:broke !!) 22,00
kyosho front suspensionrods 22,00 (bent)
xbr front susp.rods 22,00 (ok)

(alu uprights 74,00)
3D ackermann 22,00 (:toe-in out at compression!!= ugly+not good)
(servosaverplate K head 30,00)
torquerod front RMV 33,00 (stock =bit cheap)

New white Pistons shocks 15,00 (:black broke!!)
New shims shockrods 10,00
+ clips 7mm GS 4,00 (:collapsing shocks!!!)
4 susp.arms soft 25,00 (: because drove like poop)

+ kit TQ fr-rr 100,00 (: still drove like poop)
+New Inserts caster 2x2 30,00 (:originals turn into the arms/ even more in new soft ones !!!))
+ latest balls for directional rods. 2x2 43,00 (:don't pop off!)
+ new longer outdrives frontdiff. 30,00 ( :driveshaft can pop out w. soft arms!)

= 1390,00 euro!! = 1668.00 dollar !!
( - 178,00 not abs. necessary)

so
it's honest to say many errors where made with this buggy
at the expense of the first buyers

and yes, it's the best car around, but only in theory
in practise, it's indisputedly, the mbx5 Prospec
but due to the will of the manufacturer; the xb8 will be getting the best
but imagine they didn't have Aigon...

don't mistake, I want to drive this buggy one day
and I really love it...mmh... black beauty
but I still wait
till the first xb8 gets to get past my mayhem Pro......next day I drive xb8
very soon now I guess..

I have nothng against the XB8, the only problem is Plaidfish and couple other are the only people I have heard good comments about them from. I'm looking at 2006 racing racing right now. Money is not a problem for me, I'm an engineer and my wife is a vet. The Prospec is proven and for 2006 that is the buggy I am going to race. I currently race 1/10 nitro stadium trucks so I am not a newbie. I had my first nitro RC in the early 90's when the things wouldn't idle for more than 10 seconds. I appreciate everybody's comments on the Jammin and the Prospec. If I wanted to know anything about the XB8 I would have asked.

you 2 are the first I've heard complain about the xb8.....
and i don't know what gdc02 is doing w/ his buggy to have all that broken on it.......I hammer the crap out of mine and all I've broken are 1 rear lower arm....3 front lower arms....1 upper front trnbuckle....and I ran a center diff bone dry and shredded it...all were mistakes I made or stuff I just kept running knowing it was gonna go.... I stuffed it into a 4x4 post and it was fine.......and congratulations on your new buggy even if it is only a prospec....:D

like I said in europe people were getting rid of their xb8
because they couldn't cope with the difficult driving of the thing
and the many issues and were passed by everyone
mostly to buy a mbx5 prospec

why else do you think they put on sale that quickly
the soft arms and the TQ sets ?

perhaps there is a reason in the easy mentality of the european drivers to

most pilots only drive 2-3 hours every 2 sundays, when it's not raining..
or even only at the sundays of the races
so they need easy tunable cars...
they didn't like the kyosho 777 sp1 neither for that

I don't know about europe but everyone I've let drive mine has either made the switch from prospec or they keep thinking about it.....you say tomatoe I say XB8.......why the llow running times in EU???

European tracks are like rally tracks, they are always WOT so when they wipe they wipe hard. That would be my guess.
