I have to disagree. If you already won the truck in an auction on ebay, it's yours and you owe the money to the seller regardless. You are responsible for doing your homework BEFORE you bid on the item, once you have placed a bid you have signed a contract stating you are going to pay the seller that amount for the truck. If a guy had a listing at the local hobby shop and you went to look at the truck, then of course you would ask him to start it. BUT, since you already bought the item on ebay, if there is nothing catastrophic different from the listing, such as a smartech instead of a Savage, or the truck having no drivetrain, then I think you're obligated to pay for it regardless.
Grrlracer, you know that we've gotten to be very good friends, and I'm sorry if I'm telling you something that you don't want to hear. It's nothing personal. I know that you're new to all this, and you haven't really learned about tuning and such, and since the person that's delivering the truck isn't the owner, I think they're going to be in a bad spot if you can't get it running just because you aren't really familiar with a Savage. By all means try to start it when you get it, but if it doesn't start, I think you should still be responsible for payment since you have already entered the contract.
Just to be on the safe side do not but any R/C without hearing and seeing it run. Believe me I have been burned twice in the past and one guy I talked to about the rig for more than a week before I bought it. Even talked with a few family members of his also.It was all good though cause I totally rebuilt the maxx. Also the savage is more difficult to work on than the maxx espicially if you dont have prior experience with rigs.I dont want to sound negitive or anything just watch yourself cause from what I have read you have had some not so great experiences with some folks on Ebay. But good luck it does "sound" like a good rig.
I have to disagree, somewhat. I think you have to consider the source and follow some ground rules when buying a used RC. With consider the source, I mean buy a rig from someone that you trust or has a good reputation. I've bought 4 rigs used and all of them were in nearly perfect condition. Second, when you're buying something used, you need to expect it to have some problems and expect to spend some money on it to get it running. I mean remember that it's used, if you want a perfect rig, then buy a new one. I'll give you an example. I bought a buggy from twocane that was nearly new, and he told me that he had had an accident with it and it overheated. He included a new ESC with the purchase. Now when I bought this, knowing that it had overheated, I was fully expecting to replace some parts. Sure enough, the motor was burnt up. I didn't get upset and pitch a bitch, I ordered a new motor because I bought a used rig and knew that it had been used and had gotten hot.
I just thought I would share since I've bought a ton of rigs used and never been burnt, but I bought them from reputable people or dealers. It's not possible to go drive every rig on ebay, which is the only place a lot of people shop, so just expect to spend some extra money once you get it and everything will work out for the best. You may get lucky, the rig wont need anything, and you'll have extra money to spend on hop ups.
