RC Driving Style
hi,
i'm looking for a race car i am thinking about the rustler i want it to be under 350 i won't race it. i should get it and i don't now what to get with it type of fuel and all the other stuff. i don't know any thing about race cars so could you help me out with what i should get. i might race it sometimes but i want it to be more for my back yard street baseball feild . please help.

First off, you said car so I was thinking car, not truck but that's ok. Secondly, hit Post Reply instead of New Thread.

Now that that's out of the way, back to answering your question. While not discounting any knowledge here I'd pick up an RC mag and read about several different types of RC's and see what you are getting into. The Rustler was discontinued. Check here for a few different types of trucks that you might like: http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0093p?&C=CBA

I would strongly suggest you checking about specific trucks before you buy. If it's your first RC you can gain the experience of building your truck from the ground up however unless you have a true RC expert near you I would advise against this since you will have to figure out any problems you may encounter alongthe way while building. RTR (ready to run) trucks can be great first time trucks because you have very little to figure out to get it running. Hope this helps.

Do you have a Local Hobby Shop (LHS) around you? I would go and stop by one day and ask some of the guys there what they run. Ask the shop keeper what brand parts he keeps in stock. If you going to just be "bashing" with it then its very likely that you will break somethnig at some point. So if you buy something that your LHS is familiar with and stocks parts for, it will be muh quicker that your back up and running again rather than waiting for parts to be shipped.

Adding to the last 2 posts, if there is a local RC racetrack near u I would check it out and see what might interest u.

Hay Poop.

No need to email me if you have the exact same post in the forum. Especially emailing me multiple times with the same thing.

I am not very familiar with the rustler or the cost of it. but I do know that it is fine for what you want to do with it. I really dont know if you could get one for the price you are asking. Go to ebay. That is your best bet.

I smell something.....

Pick up a magazine or two, go to your local track, stop at a hobby shop and put together all of your findings and buy either an R.C. car, stadium truck, monster truck or buggy that fits the bill of what you need.

We will be here to support you 100% when you get your ride.

Hope you enjoy the hobby!

Poop - check out the Team Associated RC10GT RTR, and the Team Losi XXX-NT RTR rather than the Rustler. I think that you would be happy with either of these for bashing, and both can be raced at a later time, if u wish. The most important thing though, is to make sure your LHS (local hobby shop) stocks the truck, and the parts. breaking things is a way of life in nitro rc, and you dont wanna have to wait 2 weeks for mail order everytime you need a part.

PS - both trucks i mentioned will get you in the hobby for about 350.00

Check out the August 2003 Issue of Radio Control Nitro they have a shoot out of 4 Stadium Trucks. This might give you a little more background as to what to buy. Ebay is also a good source for vehicles. That where I get most of my cars and trucks.

the rustler El Pirata is referring to is the old .15 rustler. http://www.traxxas.com/products/nitro/nrustler/trx_nrustler.htm
tower discontinued the .15 rustler, but here is a link to the 2.5. so the rustler still does exist, just had a major power over haul.

the one thing about the 2.5 rusty is it was not built for racer in mind. it was built to fly. not saying it can't be raced, just have to tame the power. the one thing about the 2.5 is it can be a finiky engine to tune at times. so some paitence is needed with this engine.

i dont have anything more to add about statiums, my only experience is only limited to a xxxnt sport i had for a little while. good truck, engine was easy for my to break in, comes with a jrxr2 radio. good set up for $300 rtr
i got rid of it, didnt fit my style. i like monster trucks and went and got a new 2.5 maxx.

if your new to nitro, i would sugest doing some reading. some of the kits are more user friendly then others. some of the entry level kits are very good.
but the best thing you can do is make sure nitro is something you want to get in to. electric is plug and play. nitro can and will give you problems at times, the most major thing is engine maintence and learning to tune.

Team Associated RC10GT in Readty to Run or Kit. The kit will teach you how the truck is put together and you will then knowwhen you have to fix something (and you will break stuff, everybody does). With a kit you will need an engine (if not with it) and here I'd suggest an OS engine. Pull starts start just like a lawn mower with a pull rope, non-pull start requires a starter box and power source required by the box. A kit also requires a radio setup with Transmitter, receiver and two servos. No matter what you purchase you will need Fuel (recommend 20% nitro content), glow plug starter, extra glow plugs, and batteries for transmitter (8AA's for transmitter and 4AA's for receiver/or a 4 or 5 cell receiver pack). If getting NiCD or NiMH batteries you will need a charger for them.
The Ready to Run is probably less exspensive but the kit generally gives you a better quality R/C but you need to buy some things that come with the Ready to Run.
About the the best off-road type R/C's are Associated, Losi, Transax, and Ofna. IMO

hey larry - whats a transax? lol.

I would have recomended a kit as well, but his budget was 350.00 total, and there is no way u could get a kit for that, even with the most basic setup.

Maybe the budget is $350 but did you ever buy an R/C that didn't end up costing you much more than you counted on? I know I have, every one I ever got. Just giving some thoughts for him to look at as options. Who knows, maybe he will check deeper and decide to hold off a bit to get something better than he can at the moment.
