i bought a rustler xl5 a onyx230 charger 2 5000mah batterys i got overnight shipping so itll be here tomorrow tell me what ya think

Be sure to use the water break-in method on the motor if it's a new kit.

They are a lot of fun, post pics when you get it.

awsome does that mean i can run it through water woot woot
do i have to break it in if so how and for how long i got 2 batteryies

Just run it around half throttle for the first pack. The 12t titian puts out decent power, but they fail often. But for $20 bucks, who cares. And when I say often, I mean, for me, every couple months. And I was running 8 cells through it with some high gearing, 25-87. I recommend some 8 cell Tenergy packs or other high quality packs of the same voltage. 8 cells makes it feel like a whole different beast. They're doggy on 6 cells but will give ya a chance to get a grip on how they handle and float. 5000's should move it pretty well. Have fun man, they're good trucks. The only other thing I can think of is to check the screws on the chassis braces and bulk head often. They tend to come loose. But mines old, I imagine Traxxas licked that problem a while ago.

Check the mesh between the pinion and spur before running!!!! VERY IMPORTANT!!

Absolutely! And check it often! These trucks don't have the best motor mount set up. But on the other hand, my rusty now has indentations where the motor screws go that pretty much set my mesh for the different pinions I run. I've gotten motors way to hot in the past.

well I'm gonna run the crap out of it and get a brushless

I have heard from a lot of slash racers that the fan cooled 550 Titans hold up very well. Just a thought, I don't know if Traxxas is equipping the newer Rustys and pedes with the fan cooled motors like the slash. I have watched a lot of Slash races here lately, those things always seem to finish the races no matter how bad the driver is.
I had 2 of the olfer Pedes with the 20T stingers. A 17T Venom Fireball made them pretty quick with a good 7 cell pack.

Yes, I race the slash. The difference in a properly broken in motor and not broken in is huge in terms of performance, but I've also heard it can extend the life of the motor as well.

Here is the expert spec class running at my track. I run a lot with these guys and the thing that's keeping me from competing with them is my worn out motor. We are running 2s Lipo which does help a bit.

Are the new ones brushless ready? (all metal gearing)

Hell, the diff in the vxl tranny's are plastic. I bought a couple of them, the latest to handle a 3000kv E/Z run set up. I had to split it to change the spur gear shaft so I could run the old slipper(hated to do it but I'm strapped) and sure enough, the diff is plastic.:\

yep 1 day 1 new motor i let it get to hot n it broke

i just ordered a brushless system with a lipo shuttoff with a 3s lipo

With a 3S Lipo? Wow, that's insane. I can't keep mine on the track with a 2s, lol. That thing's going to rip. Videos when you get it put in. Again, remember to use proper gearing and mesh with your new system, it's highly likely that the gear mesh killed your first motor.

Yea, it was probably too tight. Might wana also go to a smaller pinion gear, if possible. And ya might wana put it into training mode, unless you have driven a BL rig before......... trust me. I'm not calling you an incapable driver, just try it in test before opening it up.. unless youve driven bl on 11.1v b4.

I've driven jatos n i have a t maxx n i have driven a bl on 11.1

i had an XL-5 Rustler i got off a trade. came with an orion 6 cell pack. i went to all-battery.com and got the 9.6V NiMH 8 cell 4600Mah pack for it and it toasted the titan motor in about 4-5 hours of use. about a week for me.

i got a Orion method-R SV2 13T motor and it was a super speed demon.

upgraded the servo, gave it the RPM treatment, and a new set of wheels and tires for street and off road. and it gave me 30+ hours of fun, never broke any thing. than ended up trading it.

but an electric rustler is a really great truck. I'm hopefully getting another one soon myself. let me know if you ever need any parts. i got a box full of stock parts, servos, and a few 550 motors.

GL with yours
