Is there anything I can do to this starter box to make it touch the flywheel? I don't know if the rubber is just worn out or my flywheel is just not large enough.

I don't know much about starter boxes, but is the flywheel flush with the bottom of the chassis? I would think it would have to be.....

That is an issue with a lot of cars. I would think you should get a larger flywheel for the box. You might have to move the entire unit (the rotating part of the box) up an inch or so just to get it close. I'm not that good with powerplants, But I would think getting a larger fly wheel on your rig could be trouble unless you know what your doing.

also, what engine are you trying to start? I know on my HPI kit it said that you needed a larger flywheel for use with a starter box.

ok, I looked on the GS website, and they say there are different engine mounts used when there is a pullstarter on the car. the pullstart engine mounts are 17mm. so...... if you have 17mm engine mounts, they might be too tall to let the flywheel contact the starter wheel. I have no knowledge of this brand of car, so I am just going by what I have seen on the net..

www.gsracing.com

if this doesn't help, i would recommend sending them an email. i would include the height of the engine mounts, the diameter of the flywheel, and what starter box you are using.

I'm looking at a way to modify this box to fit the storm. I think I've got it covered.

You should be able to turn your flywheel with your finger from the bottom of your ride. If you can't reach the flywheel with your finger you will need to change out your engine mounts to bring the flywheel lower to the chassis. It should not be so low as to extens below the bottom of the chassis.

Also, check that the starter wheel fits in the slot for the flywheel. I have seen some wheel are just too thick to fit in the slot and therefore never makes contact with the flywheel. In this case I would suggest shaving the outside edges of the wheel slightly to make it a bit thinner. I would not recommend widening the slot on the chassis as it could cause a weak point.

I used the stock Hyper box to start my stock pull start Storm. Maybe your rubber wheel is worn down?

I think that's the problem... worn wheel. I'm just gonna raise it a bit and see what happens.
