anyone run this? What do you think of it would it be a good engine for 150.00? It will be going in a lightning pro.

You have to do a lot of sealing with that engine as it has a lot of airleaks and therefore tuning issues out of the box. Once you have sorted those bugs out, you've got an engine that can compete with any typical buggy engine for very little money.

I'd skip it if I had lots of money lying around, but I don't, so what can I do but reccomend it. I've heard mostly good things from owners - and trust me, theres quite a few out there. That price makes it very popular. Same engine as the 4P and regular 8P, just makes a little more power I guess. Also looks a lot better if you care for that. :p:

I'm gonna disagree with UDI - RobH has that mill in his Lightening Pro, and Loves it. He has had ZERO problems with it, and when I saw that thing run? MAN IT WAS FAST! Plus - he got a conversion to allow a pullstart to be installed on it. We all made fun of him for not having a starter box, but the damn thing started on the first pull everytime! I was VERY impressed with that engine - plus the damn thing is a ALOT cheaper than the OS V01b

imkeathead - no, if i am correct, he is running the one-piece RD Logics pipe.

I'm running the THS one piece off-road racing pipe.

It's a good engine. I didn't have any problems with it.

My engine has a funny story behind it. OFNA imports engines from Ho Bao and put the OFNA name on them. You can not buy the OFNA Hyper .21 8-port with a pull start. The engine doesn't exist. If you call ofna, they will tell you that the 8-port race does not come with a pull start. My engine, however, did come with a pull start. My engine does not carry the OFNA name. It's a Ho Bao Hyper .21 8-port w/ a pull start. I had to buy mine on ebay.

If you have a starter box, get the OFNA 8-port race as it's a little cheaper.

I also put this engine in a Lightning Pro. ;)

good deal I got the 8 port race because I do have a starter box. did you have to get any other things to make it work? Such as new CB, engine mounts

Rob - you can get each and every Hobao/Ofna Hyper engine in pullstart and non-pullstart versions - just because the great US of A doesn't have it doesn't mean the rest of the world doesn't. We get 4P, 8P, and 8P Race all in ps and non-ps versions here.

And the hyper engines that Ofna sell are still badged "Hobao", so it makes no difference either way, Ofna don't even rebadge, they just resell when it comes to these engines.

I thought the 8p was the same as the 8p race but the race has no pull start on it?

uDi_MP7.5, there a big debate on the savage board about the 8-port race with a pull start. A guy was selling them on ebay and people that called OFNA directly were promptly told that the 8-port race with a pull start did not exist and that the guy selling the engines was hacking the engine up and putting an inferior crankshaft in the race engines that was capable of supporting a pull start. it turns out that the guy on ebay was buying the engines directly from Hobao and not through ofna. OFNA does not sell or admit that the 8-port race comes in pull start form.

If you want one you have to look for one without the OFNA association. good luck because Ruenjou Lu (aka engine_nut on ebay) no longer sells the infamous 8-port race with a pull start.

all of this really doesn't matter because 1meathead has a starter box. :)

i have the 8 port race in my pro.. love it.. engine has over 3 gal of fuel thru it.. at the 2 gal point though i had to put a os carb on it cause the stock carb no longer keeps a tune that will let it run.. and i have changed carbs, o rings, sealed yada yada.. put os carb on it runs.. others melt glow plugs as its running so rich its blowing oil out the pipe and gets so hot you cannot touch it after it runs 30 seconds.. i have given up on the 8 port carb.. POS that it is..

yeah, the OS 20e carb is a nice upgrade for the Hyper .21 engines. i did that upgrade too. a sweet one it is. if anyone is interested, pm for info on getting an OS 20e for $20 + shipping.

i also have one of the imfamus 8 port race pull start engines.. the crank is great on mine.. but i do know a kids whos rod snapped at the crank.. I'm still not ready to buy a starter box... but a r40 will be switching that range of thought...

if you buy one.. think about the 20e carb.. you loose a tad on top end.. but ease of tuning makes up for it.. will actually be able to use the engine..

I've heard the rvz carb?? that os makes keeps top end... but it comes with a 100$ price tag.. the 20$ tag is must buy me now.. new is 65..

I know 20.00 sounds great I just sent rob a PM about it. I need all the help I can get with tuning! If I loose a bit on top end thats ok should still be better than the stock engine

Okay fair enough, but I am positive that the engines are exactly the same whether you buy it as an Ofna or Hobao. Ofna probably just doesn't sell the 8P Race in pullstart form for some reason; in the rest of the world where Ofna doesn't exist as a company, hobao 8P Race's are pretty abundant.

HYPER 21 ENGINE 4 PORT W/PULL START AUS$ 254.85
HYPER 21 ENGINE 8 PORT WITHOUT PULL START AUS$ 235.60
HYPER 21 ENGINE 8 PORT WITH PULL START AUS$ 251.00
HYPER 21 ENGINE 8 PORT PRO WITHOUT P/S AUS$ 259.00
HYPER 21 ENGINE 8 PORT PRO WITH P/S AUS$ 269.70

Divide by 1.5ish for US$, so the 8PR-PS would cost $179. Is that reasonable?

www.radiomodels.com.au the site if anyone wants to buy one (I'm really surprised you can't get the 8pr-ps there!), international shipping can be arranged pretty easily (I presume) if you email them.

That's not bad but my 8port race was US 149.00 so with SH from AUS. I could just get one in the US and still have extra to buy a starter box

OS 20e

I tried to send you a PM, but it was denied. How I get one??

agreed OFNA doesn't carry the pullstart version. i have a hobao hyper 7 pcr pro i had special ordered from Taiwan that came with a 8 port race mill/pullstart. not common here but overseas it is:)
