Hunting for my first 1/10 4X4 SC truck...gawd!!, the choices!

I have one as a loaner truck from one of my buddies. It's a awesome truck. Only complaint is the servo saver. Makes steering a bit loose at some points if it's not fully tightened down but great basher and track car.

This is when I had it on my slash carpet tires just to test it out. Monster. https://www.rctalk.com/forum/threads/me-gots-a-new-car.145259/post-1535848

If you're looking for just RTR, pro4 is still a great truck but really doesn't have that much aftermarket upgrade support so if you're into that, slash 4x4 would be my choice.
If you want a high quality build and want to build it up from parts, Tekno.

@Daskraut you don’t have to tell me homie about the choices. I was on a 4 hour rabbit hole bender on SC trucks when I saw em at the track. Obviously brushless and I saw a lot of kits. Personally I’m not there yet so RTR I love the choice of the RC10 SC pro. I had the RB 10 RTR but it didn’t have the features that this rig does. Solid choice. Traxxas Slash has better upgrades.

The Pro 4 SC10 shares most parts with the MT10. Both are a good buy in their class. I like that they come with a center diff instead of a slipper, and their stock electronics are better than alot of others.

Pro4 is a great choice. Extremely durable, it shares most of its parts with the rival MT10. Mine has held up very well. Not as durable as my senton, but a lot more performance than the senton. Compared to the Traxxas 4x4 and the tekno, they are in another class. The LCG chassis of the Traxxas and tekno makes a huge difference if you plan on doing any track days.

Which model Tekno??. And thank you for your help

Great help guys, I have been burning my eyes out on youtube trying to get ideas...but like anything internet, down the rabbit hole you go!. The Traxxas 4X4 slash ultimate is also a strong call...an expensive one, but I know how smart it is to do it right the first time. The SC10 pro4 seems amazing, but I hear alot about the hot running motor and do not see a ton of upgrades for all the potential areas that may be an issue. The call to race MAY rear it's ugly head, and I want to have a good rig. Tekno seems amazing, but probably too pro for me. Looks like a Traxxas could match with $$ thrown at it.

A Slash will never be a Tekno. No matter how much money you throw at it. I never replaced A arms or driveshafts on my 410.3... had a Slash ultimate before that and in the same period I'd go through at least a set of arms and driveshafts. Don't get me started on the wood screws instead of hinge pins.
Traxxas parts are cheap and available everywhere but I like to drive, not fix constantly.

SCT410 2.0 is the latest edition. SCT410 SL is based off of their 10th scale platform and more for lighter / indoor type stuff. While the 2.0 is based off of an 1/8 scale and more beastly. Although you can find used SCT410.3s (older model, yet still durable and competitive) for less even if its a roller or ARTR.

Yea I sort of have to agree with @nino . The Traxxas models CAN be raced and durable IF upgraded enough but you'll spend as much or more in a Traxxas than a Tekno if you were to race it. I do have several buddies that have Traxxas cars and they roll with it stock and plenty durable for them, and I have another group that wrenches on them alot. Mixed reviews essentially.

@WickedFog is actually working on a SCT410 2.0 at the moment too:

Here's my buddies Tekno .3 with me behind the wheel:

And then here is a race with me with the Pro4 SC10. What I heard from my buddy is that the Pro4 is a about a second or so off from his Tekno.

Imho the Pro4 would be better for racing if AE offered a LCG chassis conversion kit like what Traxxas does, or if they remodel the car and come with a LCG from the factory.

Another option, Arrma Senton, but its more basher than racer/mixed car. Just saying

If HH didn't ruin over TLR I would have said SCTE if they've still made it. Those were the bomb back in the day:

safe bet you are speaking as a racer?

They aren't bad either from what I've heard.

If you think you might want to get into racing, listen to the guys here. David is an avid racer, and knows his stuff as far as what works and whatnot. He's battled through from the ground up. I wouldn't go with a Slash unless your local track has a Slash race class.

If you look around on here and rctech.com at the classifieds section, there are sometimes used Tekno's and such for really good deals. A used Tekno is going to be the best bang for your buck. Racers typically take good care of their RC's. I can't tell ya how many I have seen for sale for pennies on the dollar, that looked to be in excellent condition.

And even if you mostly plan to bash it around, a race grade kit is going to take far more abuse.

Or maybe buy the Slash snd get a dedicated racer later on. You can never have too many.

Just a thought.

Racing would be maybe down the road. I just need a strong rig that will not shed parts... and I have NO PLANS on doing stupid huge jumps!:D

The one thing Traxxas has going for them, there are parts everywhere. Which is a good thing because you'll need them on hand 😉😅

I have a slash 2wd and I semi built it for the track/practice. And purely racing for fun while I keep my buggies for the competitive side. Heck my buddy is thinking of building a 2wd Fury just to race with me in 2wd SCT with my slash. Idc how slow it is going through the turns still having fun 😊 😄

I never really raced except slot cars and 1:1 drag racing. I can imagine a Slash class would be a lot of fun.

Yea especially spec slash. From what I heard it's fun because you're racing against basically the same car it's just true driver competition.
