OK Guys : I am looking for some tech advice on this issue

I recently installed a Hi Torque Steering Servo into my MAXX to turn my Big 3.8 Chevron tires my MAXX came stock with the Org Traxxas 2055 servo just wasent getting the job done with the steering duty's So off to my HS & hears what I got...

Savox Hi Torque Steering servo my R/C guy I deal with on a 90% basis said this servo will get the job done & then some he even explaned to me this Savox servo will turn my wheels no problem with truck not moving & said its a very strong servo & one of the best 1's on the R/C market details on the servo
Weight: 79.0
Speed/Sec: 0.13
Torque: 22.0/305.5
FYI: this servo costed me $98.00 so it better be good " check that awesome "

My question is to you guys My bashing buddy said with this Servo I need to run a Hump pack or RX pack he said with the power this servo requires the 4 AA batteries will not operate the Servo as it's designed & said with the 4 AA batteries I am only getting 1.5 V a batt with a total of 5.5 volts witch is fine for most stock servos but he explained my Savox servo requires @ the bear min 6.0 volt & said I need to get like 1400 or 1600 Mah pack he actually suggest's I go with a 1600 Mah pack & that will give me more power & the Servo will run smoothly my HS has the packs in stock but I was wondering what you guys think.....

inquire's needed & thanks in advance

Alkaline AA batteries are 1.5 volts each, 4 = 6 volts
Rechargeable AA batteries NiMH/NICD (hump or flat pack) are 1.2 volts each, 5 = 6 volts.
The difference is the alkaline battery voltage drops off much quicker than the NiMH/NICD packs do. The more mAh the better for the battery holding the charge.

Hump pack. I got a 1600 MAh for $18. Just make sure it has the correct plug. I made that mistake now I've got to make an adapter:\

Ok I think i will go with a hump pack NOW I have to decide witch one to go with my HS had both NIMH & Lipo packs I am leaning towards a Lipo pack.

Just make sure you have a charger that allows for charging and discharging lipo batteries if you go that route. I'm sticking with nimh for now since I just got back into the hobby and am learning as I go. Things have changed a LOT since I ran rc 20 years ago.

Make sure you servos can take the Lipo power. I plan on making the switch to a Lipo rx pack and have been reading that the extra power kills servos but I've also read that some can take it. The only way to be sure is to switch to a HV servo that's rated to take the 7.4v, or run it with what you have and hope for the best.

just get the nimh, you still get plenty of runtimes. Aim for 1600+mah and you'll be fine.

Id buy a 2S lipo and a hobbywing 6V BEC and I would power my whole set up with that. that way you get 6V the whole time the pack is in use. You will also need a small low voltage alarm to warn you when the lipo is getting too low. The only drawback to doing this is that the lipos wont generally fit in the area designed to hold your hump packs. Unless you can find a company out there making them for exactly that purpose. I just usually remove the batt tray and use industrial strength velcro to hold the lipo in place. This way your electronics all get the 6V they need throughout the entire life of the pack. They dont drop off like the NiXX packs do.

Hi guys thanks so much for your input I decided against a lipo RX pack & took the advice of my bashing buddy & got this..
Team Orion Marathon 1600 NIMH 6.0v RX hump pack..

I noticed a very big differance once I charged up the pack & plugged it into my RX on my 2.5 MAXX I was quite in aww on how much better the Throttle Servo acted & my new Savox steering Servo performed. The Rig performed very well with more snapy throttle responce & steering inputs where very responsive & quick...

Thanks guys for the help Grave

I switched over to the Life rx packs for less then $10 and there 6.6v so no voltage regulator like lipo.

Is 6.6V the nominal voltage or peak?

Yes there 6.6v nominal.
Here is some more Life battery info.

Lithium battery technology is evolving. With cell dimensions that fit anywhere a standard Li-Poly battery will and rapidly increasing capacity, LiFe chemistry will soon set the standard that all others are judged by. With the ability to deliver 1000+ usable cycles, and a life span up to 4 times longer than Li-Poly batteries (when cycled under the same discharge conditions), these batteries offer the user an excellent balance of performance and value. LiFe batteries are more durable than Li-Poly and are able to handle a higher level of abuse when compared to Li-Poly without the risk of pre-mature failure. Unlike Li-Poly, LiFe cells can be stored in a fully charged state with little to no loss in stored power, and can be discharged deeper with less risk of damage to the cells. Most importantly, LiFe batteries are SAFE! There is no risk of combustion! LiFe cells will not catch fire or explode when over charged, or after a deep discharge.
