Hi everyone I need some help. I recently bought a hpi save x 4.6 and it ran fine for about two weeks and now it locks up almost every time I run it??? It ran great until I Changed my gearing last week so I have been trying to tune it a little better? Any ideas?

I went from a 18 clutch and 49 spur

To a 14 52

If your talking about transmission wise locking up, i have heard some people talk about savages having diffs go bad very quickly because they werent shimmed properly.. How ever I've ran 2 gallons in my savage and havent had one tranismission or diff failure and i do alot of hill climbing and hardcore bashing.. I'm wondering if you just got one of the bad savages that were assembled or if its something that was messed with or done wrong to cause this.

Is there any way you can give us a more in depth idea on what exactly happened ?? were you driving it and suddenly the wheels locked up but the motor still ran ?? or is the motor just not cranking over at all?

Yeah I was tuning it and so I was driving very nicely and I was on the throttle then let off and the motor died and I wen o start it and It was locked up!

Sounds like the engine is seized. One way to tell is can you turn the flywheel by hand? If you take the glow plug out, can you turn it by hand? If you can't do the above its quite possible that your engine is seized. With your truck being so new you could get a new engine under the hpi warranty as long as it was not abused. Good luck and let us know how it goes.

Did you follow the exact steps that HPI has showed you on the included video with the truck ?? If so they may be willing to replace your motor.

Probably no warranty, then. On the bright side, you can upgrade to a more powerful motor like an LRP, a Picco or an OS.

^ yep, or if you can't afford it.. then i would take the engine apart if i were you, find out if its something as small as possibly the one way bearing ceased and the starter did aswell .. but then again it could be something really bad.. but regardless taking it apart will atleast show you what you need or whether or not you need to get that LRP :D .

I personally havent ran the LRP but from seeing videos of it, its a pretty bad ass motor thats stupid power.

Plus, its not that expensive really.

Its only about 40 or so dollars more than the x4.6

*EDIT*

OHH be careful when you take the back plate off, there is a spring loaded pin for the crank located inside the bottom of the piston rod that is so the starter can spin the motor. It likes to fly out of their from time to time.

You used to be able to pick up the Losi 454s for between $100 and $120 and those are supposedly rebadged LRP .28 spec 3s. I know I love mine for no more than it cost. Granted its not quite the same as my OS .30VG but I still love it anyway! :)
