well got my temps at 220-230. Has 4 tanks through it on the stand. Will prolly wait and let it see the ground tomorrow. Thanks for all your help.

I had it started inside got it warmed up a little bit took it outside. I ran two tanks through it got max temp of 130. About 100 short. I just sat it up on a box and let the wheels spin. I was going to run a few more tanks through it like that then just baby it around in a circle for 3 or 4 tanks then start giving it more gas. Idk if it'll work or not but going to try that. Dont really want to have to wait.

I don't like electric rcs I wouldnt even consider buying one but thanks for the idea.

So to paraphrase: I asked y'all for your advice then I didnt take it. Okay. Great. Even a sponser and engine builder advised against the very action you took. I understand your impatience but not your lack of respect for your peers. When you can't keep a tune and come looking for answers you might get a little reminder of this day.

That being said, I sincerely hope it all works out for you. And I'm praying you didn't give into temptation to stab the throttle while your rig was idling on the stand. If you did you could really do some damage.

I'm sorry I went with what hpi said to do. I don't know everyones background or knowlege on here and wasn't trying to disrespect anyone. I just figured hpi gave me some adjustments to make made them temps came right up was still spitting out oil. Was to rich for the altitude. I hope everything turns out good if not I know I'll have to buy a motor. Nope haven't stabbed the throttle set the trim a little and let it run till it ran out the tanks. Thanks again to everyone and sorry if i offended anyone.

You didn't offend. Just amazes me when folks ask for advice then don't take it.

Thanks for taking my constructive criticism for what it was: a commentary on peoples tendency to set aside peoples advice after asking for it. We may not work for HPI, but we have decades of experience. A a few centuries worth if you count Rolex's experience into the equation...

Everyone's an expert in thier own mind. If you choose to try it out than thats your choice. Nobody can blame you for that when you have a shine new toy to stare at. People get offended quite easily. Dont take it personally and just let it roll off your shoulder. Good luck with the rig!!!! I gotta apreciate the fact your goin that hard into nitro that you dont even wanna look at electric!!!

Ok so in the summer when I was breaking in my truck. I had it up on the stand to do the heat cycle and well I was doing this it started revving up real high. The wheels weren't ballooning are anything like that it did for about 15 secs before I stopped it. What kind of damage can this cause. It just did this well I was letting it idle too I never hit the throttle. This was the first tank, it also did this on the 4 but that was me trying to tune. It's my first nitro. Also one tank I got a little over zealous and didn't wait to cool down before refilling and starting again. I was just having to much fun, what kind of damage would that cause. I've only done 4 tanks, I work alot and was having problems with my truck mainly breaking a few pull starts and a servo dying. I live in the sticks and waiting for parts is a pain also finding repair time is also a pain. It's been put away for the winter now, kind of sucks but I went out and got a traxxas bandit for the winter. I like its no nitro though.

thanks for all the advice. I'm going to run another tank through it on the stand tomorrow then hit the ground with it. I guess yall will either here me say how I should of waited or its the best truck I ever had tomorrow or something in between. will keep you posted tomorrow.

sorry can't wait 4 months for warmer weather. If you break it in during the summer wouldn't that screw it up for winter because of warmer weather? Idk if cold will screw it up for warmer weather dont see how warmer weather wont screw it up in the cold.

Thanks again for all the advice...I thought about every comment but in the end it was worth the risk for me have $600 into it for a xmas gift to myself didn't wana wait till april to run it. If I have to spend another $200 for a motor and wait till april pockets are deep enough to buy a new motor.

If any damage were to occur from your description, it would have been instant, I highly doubt the engine was damaged in any way.

And in the end that's all that really matters. Run it and enjoy it! Peace and Merry Christmas!

Good for you man! I couldn't have waited either. These things aren't made of eggshells. Besides guys it's a 5.9 so if he toasts it what's the big deal? Hell if I had it to do over again knowing what I know now about that engine it would have been the first thing I got rid of and got an LRP or a Picco.

The fumes are poisonous, try to avoid breathing them all together! I would only idle the engine for a few minutes and then start driving it fluctuating the rpm, it is hard on the engine to sit at one rpm for any length of time, just like a 1:1. I don't recommend running it "very rich", just slightly rich is fine, the LSN has to be set almost perfectly tuned or the engine would not idle so you can follow the same idea with the HSN as well. Running very rich will only put more stress on the internal parts because the fuel/oil will build up in the combustion chamber and we all know that you can't compress a liquid so the compression will be higher with the additional fluid. Heat cycling is debatable "IMO" as I believe it takes a substantially higher heat to temper the materials, much higher then what you can achieve doing a break-in, or even fully tuned for that matter. Stay out of the snow! that is the biggest killer imo because when it hits the cooling head it will suck the heat out leaving the engine cold. If the engine is run cold for extended periods, once it gets warm out and the engine can get to normal running temps, you will find that it will act like a worn out engine as the tolerances were set to run at a much cooler temp, if that makes any sense. Enjoy. :)

What you said makes sense but wouldn't it be the same if you broke it in in warmer temps it would act worn out in colder temps? I think I'm gona go with it and either have to buy a new motor when it warms up or will be a good motor. Plan to baby it alot in the cooler temps. I work at a steal plant in the ovens where we temper the castings and the temps are no where near what the motor gets to to temper the metal. When it warms up I will probably be telling yall you were right and hpi was wrong. Just hope it isnt that way but it is what it is to late now already started breaking it in in cold temps.

Yeah I guess the worst that can happen is you say "well that didn't work" and buy a new mill in the spring. If the 5.9 dies then it is just a good excuse. I really want to run but it has been way to cold. In the teens I am just not running nitro at all.

Thanks for the info extreme rc. Those are some real nice pipes you make. Kind of remind me of chainsaw pipes. Maybe down the road if I start upgrading I'll contact you for one of them and a modded engine. Need to run my truck more learn the ropes and definetly learn to tune better. Although I think my tune now is ok, but I need to see when I have the truck completely broken in.

Most of us cats on RCNT are used to folks being tight on cash. As long as a new mill in the spring isn't a problem, let 'er rip. Pick up a Lrp for good weather and keep the 5.9 for winter duty.

I have a old .25 and .26 for cold weather. Heck I will not even be able to run those right now since it even too cold out. My Piccos stop getting ran at 50*.
