I have a firestorm that runs great but my temps never get over 200 it has 3 shims under the button and I've read more shims for more nitro but with running just reg torco 20 should i remove a shim or 2 its the g 3.0 nitrostar. The old g 3.0 i replaced bc i bought the car used only has one under the button

I can't comment on the shims because I've never messed with adding or subtracting shims but if your not even reaching 200F then Id check your temp gauge to make sure its correct (or at least roughly) and if it is it seems like it would need to be leaned out more. None of my nitros even run very well under 200F. I've switched between running 20 and 30% nitro without any issues other than having to retune. I dont think you need the extra shims under there but I'll let someone who has more experience with shims address that.

Where are you taking the temp? Is it an onboard sensor?

It's been my experience that onboard temp sensors tend to be not very accurate where nitros are concerned. They don't measure the temp at the glowplug which is where you get the most accurate reading.

thanks for the input but i can get temps to 180 after a couple passes and thats it i no the gun is right bc my tmaxx runs at 220 via the same gun but if i lean anymore on the hpi the motor lopes after wot the nitro star says to not mess with the lsn but if i richen the lsn would that give me more room to lean hsn. I've had hell tuning this motor and no problem at all with the trx 3.3 deff wouldn recomment the g3.0 for a first nitro with someone having no prior tuning experience

I always temp at the glow plug and i have one fo the handheld guns with the laser and not one of the cheapest ones either.

So far my experience has been that the gun style laser ones dont work that well for taking motor temps at the plug. I had one originally and it didnt work very well although at the time I thought it was because it was a cheapy but i have a friend that bought a Ryobi Tek 4 one and he had some problems with getting inaccurate readings too. Not quite as bad as my cheapy but when we got to testing his against my small handheld one it worked great when used on something at a distance of 1ft or more but trying to read something up close didnt work as well. He ended up getting one of the small hand held one similar to mine. I think he got the duratrax flashpoint temp gun and now when we both hold them right against the head and take motor temps his is almost always within 3-8F of mine. Thats what I've seen so far anyway.
