hey all, I would like to know what kinds of parts can I buy to make my car faster? I need to get ready for some 1/10 scales these people are getting. I know about leaning the engine and the needles. I just need to know some parts. Not anything costing over a $100. I would like the most parts that will make it faster that will add up to around a $100, or one part that will be better than more.

I have a lightning RR rtr made by hotbodies with a .21 engine.

A couple of options are a tuned pipe, i think they makes 2-Speeds for buggies but i'm not sure, and you can play around with the gearing on your buggy for some more top speed. Althought the easeiest thing to do would be to buy a better engine. An XTM 24.7 can be had for 129.99 and it's a screamer, I highly suggest it.

I'd like a faster top speed but I'd still like to keep my acceleration. Since my acceleration is what is winning my races on street races.
Ok will a 2 speed mess with my accel much?
How do I mess with the gearing?
Is an xtm 24.7 better than my hotbodies .21 engine?
What size engine is it( I know 24.7 but like 3.5 or .21?) ?
What will this screamer enhance?
If I wanted before races could I switch them out with no problem?
What would be the best option for a tuned pipe?

couldn't you just get a better cooling head to allow the engine to be run leaner allowing more speed

ya but, I only run the engine lean in street races. Also doesn't leanng the engine ruin the engine do to the lack of lubricant?

If you have a bunch of money you want to throw into your RC go for it. At the level of competition you and I are at the driver will win the race not the car. My best advice to you is to learn to use what you have. At a local level of racing I will take a good driver over the best available equipment every time. Its best to spend your $100-200 on fuel. after 4-5 gallons you will have learned a lot about tuning and driving. When the time comes that you have worn out your engine, get a better one.

Thats my opinion, but who am I to say.

to change the gearing, you can add a smaller/larger clutchbell or a smaller/larger spurgear. It would probably be easier to change he clutch bell. you will want to add a larger (more teeth) clutch bell for higher top speed. This will lower your acceleration though so don't increase it too much.

I'm actually not sure exactly how bug the 24.7 is. I'm assuming it means .247 cubic inches where as your engine is a .21 cubic inches. A screamer is just a term, it means a very powerful engine. I think (hope) you know what having more power means for your performace/speed. Yes, the 24.7 will be more powerful as it is bigger and is rated higher in HP, 2.6 HP. I think your .21 is about 2.3 HP iirc. The 24.7 is a direct drop in, it was designed for buggies-comes in the X-Terminators.

I don't really know what tuned would be a good one but a lot of people like Ofna's tuned pipes for buggies.

A two speed will increase your acceleration because you will have one low gear ratio-giving you high acceleration, and will increase top speed because you will have a higher gear ratio for you 2nd speed.

I think I answered all your questions, did I miss anything?

no you ansewered them all, but I have more :). Where can I get a bigger clutchbell and where can I get a 2 speed? I can't get the engine so that bites. Is there any specific tuned pipe that would be good? I would love it if I could get all of them from the same site. My lhs takes months before they ever receive parts and they may not even recieve them. So I need a web site.

If you visit the "LINKS" tab at the top of the screen, under the RCNT header, you might find a few good online shops...

you could always sell your lightning. and buy a hyp 7 pcr pro and throw a ws711 in it then you whould be faster..

Ok heres what ya need to be the local speed demon. I had this setup in my K3. I got a picco werks .26(rated 3.0hp) It toped out at just over 50mph,but it got there in like 2seconds. It's the fastest 1/8th scale car I have ever seen. Off the line it could punk any 1/10th scale with ANY hot motor. Then if you wanna go faster then the 50's,then you need to get ofna's 2speed tranny for the ultra gtp. The tranny itself costs around $100 plus the picco's $180.I ran a 14cb and it was really too fast to drive,it was more scary then fun.I could leave 3ft strips in my driveway, but that gets old after awhile :jk:

so how fast does the lightning rr buggy go with what is has out of the box and tuned correctly? I've heard about 60 MPH

does anyone know a site for a 2 speed to put on my buggy?

will either of these 2 speeds be good for my buggy? http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXGWX1&P=7
http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXM580&P=7
if so which would be best?

here's all the tuned pipes on tower hobbies. I don't know what to look for so I'm asking you guys. What should I be looking for in a muffler? http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0095p?FVPROFIL=++&FVSEARCH=tuned+pipe&FVPROFIL=++&search=Go

I don't think either of those 2-Speeds will work. The first one is for an onraod touring car, and the secnd one is for electric. This is what a 2-Speed for a buggy should look like: (I think)

This won't work but it should look something like this. I can't find one for your buggy yet. I haven't had any experience with turned pipes for buggies, mabye someone else can help you with that.
