Hi All - I have a finicky hyper 21 8 port and I noticed that it leaks fuel from the front main bearing, enough to wet the case and spray the breaks with fuel. My question is how big a fuel lead is big that it will affect tuning? I've been having trouble tuning this thing and it makes me wonder if that's the problem? The engine is 3 months old and I haven't abused it...ran it for 4 gallons or so at between 220F to 280F. Okay, okay, I got it to 300F for a short time but it wasn't my fault...:(

Also, if I need to replace the bearing, is this a PITA or what?

I would think it would effect it a lot if fuel is coming out that means extra air is getting in and will effect the tunning.

does it idle up and down while it sits or does it stay steady?
if it's not smooth then you have an air leak....yes replacing th efront main is a PITA cause you have to tear the whole engine apart to do it....heat the case up in the oven to 300-350 and remove the bearing...as it's cooling have the new bearing ready to drop in and let it cool then rebuild/reseal and retune......if that's easy to do then LMK how cause I have 2 mills I can rebuild if I get off my lazy ass and decide to do it.....

what your describing isnt promising, take off the airfilter and have a look at the crank. if its scored up just cut your losses and get a new mill. the tight tolerances between the diameter of the crank and the inside of the case is what creates your seal. also pull your flywheel and inspect the bearings seal, if its worn out or melted that will cause problems as well. you can then replace it and maybe gain some more life out of the engine. you just need to decide how much its worth to fix it, because at 4 gallons the engine is past its peak.
